On the blueline they have to get a mix that has Wideman in the third pairing and not with a guy that should be getting 25 minutes a night
Did we not make the playoffs with Wideman playing like 30 minutes a night? I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt with the speedy Brodie to cover for his foot speed issues. I prefer him on the top four over Jokipakka or Engelland, and Kulak might need more NHL experience before we throw him to the dogs. I also think Wideman is probably our best penalty killer on the right side.

Great writeup as usual. And too bad this is only a mistake ...

Giordano – Hamilton
Brodie – Brodie
Kulak – Engelland
At the first glance I wondered how great our top 4 looks on paper.

Agreed about Bennett and Chiasson. Hoping the Chiasson experiment ends pretty soon.

toi total
Brodie 26:33 wideman 25:44
Gio 23:47 Hamilton 16:24
Engelland 13:13 Kulak 11:26

ev strength toi
Brodie 20:18 wideman 20:49
Gio 16:43 Hamilton 14:37
Engelland 11:16 Kulak 11:26

This is a great example of ice time management. They got top 4 minutes from a #5 d-men

Kulak had a come back game after his disaster against NY.

Wideman and Brodie were the clear top pairing in a 1-0 win on the road and rather than hoping that this is something that can be built upon

When Versteeg returns he'd make the best replacement on that line. Chiasson could sit for a bit or swap in and out with Hathaway depending on the opponent.

I didn't mind Wideman with Brodie at all. When Wideman is focussed his IQ is good enough to make up for his footspeed issues. He made some good passes out of the zone last night.

The bottom pairing of Engelland and Kulak can work. Kulak has looked lioke a rookie the last two games, because he is a rookie. But he can skate and get the puck out fairly well, which Engelland needs. Really Engelland is a fit with anyone except Wideman.

I don't think Bennett-Stajan is a long term thing, and sure shouldn't be. Bingo is right - if he plays wing, give him Backlund and Frolik.

If you put Bennett as a LW on with B/F where do you play Tkachuk?

Gaudreau-Monahan-Brouwer
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk-Stajan-Ferland/Chaisson/Vey/Hathaway/ ????

Would rather they call up Jankowski and see if Tkachuk and him have any chemistry.

You don't see it odd to have a guy get healthy scratched half of the time and then get top three ice the other half?

I don't think Wideman is that bad when he is played in his proper role. The trouble is Hamilton has the same role and gets the starts because he's part of our future. The other variable is getting Brodie to play effectively on the left side so
Wideman has a position. So far that experiment hasn't worked that well except for maybe last night.

Incredibly odd... In Wideman's 10 games the flames are 4-6-0 40%

In his 8 games with over 20 minutes the Flames are 4-4-0 50 %

In the 7 game where Wideman sat the Flames The Flames are 2-4-1. 35.7 %

----

Compare that the Hamilton's 4 games over over 20 minutes 1-2-1 37.5%

-----------

Engelland also has 7 games over 20 minutes 3-3-1 50 %

-----------------------

Pretty obvious that between the two that Wideman (and/or Engelland) drives a better chance of winning. If a message needs to be sent how is it that Hamilton doesn't sit?
