The Wife and I are big fans of 2 quick getaways:

the Delta at Kananaskis for a weekend. Airmiles picks up the tab and we spring for the golf and upgrades.

Panorama - any of the places are fine except the low end. The upper end are quite nice. You never have to leave for golf, tennis, horseback, etc, plus there are 3 restaurants and tonnes of places for quite walks. Cheap this time of year too.

Some of the more "exclusive" places:

Mt Engadine Lodge in Canmore (http://www.mountengadine.com/)
Numtijah (Bow Lake - might be closing for the season) (http://www.num-ti-jah.com/)

Others:

Waterton Lakes is quite nice around this time as well (and quite reasonable)
Panorama & Kananaskis (as mentioned below)

A theme room at West Edmonton Mall with the gigantic waterslide nearby.

Jasper is five hours away (from my house anyway, less from Calgary) but if its nice out that drive up the Icefield Parkway is stunning no matter how many times you make it. Mrs. Cowperson and I drove up to Jasper two weekends ago and overnighted at Columbia Ice Field before coming home the next day.

Or Jasper Park Lodge.

Deer Lodge at Lake Louise is quaint. Request for the smallest room. You'll get what you ask for!!! Strange place.

Yech, I'd pass on that. That hotel is truly the land that time forgot. They built that thing and didn't bother modernizing or updating the room since whenever they built it. A cool concept and idea but the upkeep is shabby, at least the room I had as of 6 months ago. Unless divey trick pad is your idea of romance!

Put me in the Waterton column. Me and my wife love it there.

Not a couple hours from Calgary but I went to Cox Bay (Tofino) in May and it was awesome, here's where we stayed, their new villas are awesome, it's simply breathtaking waking up in front of the ocean:
