Lightning sign Killorn (7 yrs, $4.45mil AAV)
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Sounds like TB and Alex Killorn finishing a seven-year deal at $4.45M per
Leaves roughly $8.5 mil in cap space to sign Kucherov, Nameistnov, and Nesterov

I really like Killorn, but committing to him for 7 years seems a bit much ...

I don't like this for Tampa. Killorn is a decent top 9 guy but this is way to long, and a little too much. Yzerman's a great GM, but they all seem to get caught up in overpaying for guys like this. What if Drouin puts up 70 points next year and demands $6m?

hmm
Erik Erlendsson @Erik_Erlendsson
Both @FriedgeHNIC and @TimWharnsby have put out the terms, but deal also believed to included a no move clause
The NMC would kick in after this season.

Strong playoff performer, but his regular season stats are not the strongest for that salary.

Kucherov's getting 7, you'd have to think. Someone's gotta move. Callahan, if they can get rid of him, or Coburn, who probably has some value.

He didn't take a discount, surprised there is a NMC involved.

Must be confident they can move Bishop before the start of the season.

NMC for Killorn? Gross. That should've knocked the AAV down to $3.5-3.75m

What team is looking for a #1 at this point? I don't see the market.

There is the rumored Bishop to the Stars rumor that came out after the draft.
Bishop for Niemi would save the Lightning about $2 million in cap space and give them a goalie to expose for the expansion draft and a 1a/1b situation with Vasilevskiy this season.
Stars would add most likely.

Dallas, but I don't think they can help Tampa with the cap side of it. My guess is they just let him walk as a UFA after next year. Is Tampa over the cap right now? I more thought this was a bad deal for their salary structure going forward. Yzerman didn't learn from the Callahan albatross. This could easily turn into a slightly lesser version of that.

I know. All I can think of is Dallas, but they'd need to make a move also. Just don't get how Tampa, under someone as shrewd as Yzerman could let themselves get into cap issues without a long term plan.

The contract isn't awful, but it's not good either. I'm not sure they'll be able to hold together their core (Kucherov / Johnson / Palat / Stamkos / Hedman / Stralman / Drouin ) with a contract like this, plus the cap hit of that Carle buyout. I don't see Killorn is a core piece even though he's a good piece.

looks like the report of a NMC was wrong
Joe Smith @TBTimes_JSmith
#tblightning Yzerman said they discussed varying lengths of a deal with Killorn, confirmed he has a modified no-trade clause

and there we go...
Joe Smith @TBTimes_JSmith
Yzerman said 'in all likelihood,' to sign rest of RFAs, they'll have to make a move to be cap compliant. Buyout not a consideration

Other than Bishop, who else can the Lightning move? Callahan is expensive, so it might have to be like a cap dump. He had a bad year last year, but he is only a season removed from a 20+ goal, 50+ point season

That's a big contract for a 40 point player.
