Yeah that one extra year for Frolik would really set the franchise back...

Yeah, especially when it is the difference between getting the player or not. Same kind of thing every year. That's nice that you want Brouwer for 3 years instead of 4... but then you don't get him.

too much for a 2nd/3rd line player.

If you are going to pay > 4M there should be a chance that the player can will be on the #1 line for some portion of time...... like Hudler was and like Brouwer is expected to be and like Perrault/Frolik are not expected to be.

Did they even need this guy?

Laine
Wheeler
Ehlers
Connor

Seems to me their top six wingers are set between those four guys.

Damn. I remember when he was playing 4th line on the caps and they let him go for nothing. He's done pretty well since

5x5 and 4x4 is a difference of nearly 10 million dollars. ya.. a bit of a difference for a team that is tight with purse strings and has a lot of young players to pay soon.

The rumour mill had Frolik asking the Jets for 5x5 a year after offering the Jets 4x4. Jets weren't interested in the 5th year.

Seems pricey. But if they have Laine and Connor on ELC's it helps you splurge on a guy to anchor the third line like Perreault can, and play any position on the line.
