This was probably their only option to get rid of him. He wasn't that great and was over paid with an NMC. Good move

Needed to happen - the market for him would have been non-existent with how the NMC complicates the expansion draft protection.
Now they need to fill 3 more spots under 3.3M, which means that Hartnell is still in play. They will want to move one of Hartnell or Clarkson if they can, as they have big NMC contracts, but no one will touch Clarkson
Maybe now a deal for Bouma could happen - save 2.5M for the next 2 years, which will help them fill out the roster without going too close to the upper limit of the cap
