I need a calendar to rate this draft, not a stop watch.

I did like their focus on IQ and skill though. Hopefully it pays off down the road.

so let's put the idea the Flames will draft primarily based on size to bed.

also clear they draft very much by BPA and not organizational depth.

This is the type of draft philosophy that I would employ, so I like it a lot.

Hopefully these flashy skill players turn into something.

Can only rate it on filling two big needs with Tkachuk and Elliott. On that basis the weekend went really well

This is my favourite draft since 2011. They drafted people with high ceilings. I like the way the Flames have prioritized certain attributes based on skill. A lot of the players will likely put up big points in their respective leagues this year. These prospects will be a blast to watch and follow.

A

Top of draft was a home run with Tkachuk and a bargain 35th for Elliott to address our starting goalie need (and leave cap room).

Middle of the draft, a good mix of all different positions, players seemingly ranked above where they went. Parsons, Dube, Fox, Lindstrom.

Later rounds, some interesting projects.

Overall A-

FWIW, the general concensus on HF is that we were one of the better teams, that we might have picked up a couple of really good gems.

I read about some of these guys on HF, topics started months ago, lots of praise especially for Parsons and Dube.

B+...too early to tell but am very satisfied with the draft. Love that they went for skilled players this year.

Always takes years to get any kind of read on the actual players but between adding Elliot and Tkchuk (who has a decent shot at making the roster out of the gate) this team is much better today than it was yesterday at this time.

Nothing stands out to me in the later rounds, but the Elliott deal was really good.

Obviously a home run with Tkachuk, good value for Elliot and loved the Dube and Fox picks.

A for me.

1. The Tkachuk pick was fortunate. But the Flames don't get credit for this.

2. The Elliot trade was excellent. Elliot will help the Flames make the playoffs next year.....a second round pick won't. Elliot is also much cheaper than other starting goalie options out there.

3. The rest......only time will tell.

By the sounds of it they got the guy they wanted, they might have taken Tkatchuk if they traded up to 3 anyway.
