I knew something was up when I turned on the TV to see Bettman and I heard cheering instead of boos. Trade to announce!
I guess Chicago didn't think they could afford Shaw. Let's see how he does without top Forwards.

I'm sure Chicago would have loved to keep him. Chicago needs some bodies.

Good for Montreal all said-and-done.
Lars Eller for Shaw and a 2nd
Edit: Missed the other 2nd round pick. less good for Montreal... Great job for the Hawks

Shaw is good. Shaw at $4.5 million, which is what he's rumoured to want, is less good.

Told there's no firm contract in place for Andrew Shaw with Montreal, but #habs had a good idea of what it'll take before making trade.

Chicago keeps finding ways to keep that window open, at least cap wise.

Shaw is much better than Eller, so not a bad couple trades for Montreal

I think this is reasonable for both sides. Shaw is quite a bit better than Eller, so Shaw for two 2nd rounders makes way more sense to me than Eller for two second rounders.

Andrew Shaw, a FIFTH round pick, without even a current contract, returns TWO 2nd round picks? I'll take it.
Honestly...loved the guy's effort, loved the guy's guts, loved the guy's agitator skills, but, $4.5M/yr, rumored to be what his agent wanted, was really too much to pay for a guy that SHOULD have slotted as a 3rd liner. Playing with Toews/Hossa was just a stop-gap measure to cover a weakness at #1 LW...

Marc Antoine Godin @MAGodin
Source: Andrew Shaw has a 6-year offer on the table, at close to 4 million a year.

He's not "a 5th round pick". He's a past 5th round pick who is a 15-20 goal scoring, agitating, energizing, hard to play against, 2-time Stanley Cup Champion.
After a player proves himself in the league, his draft position should be irrelevant.
Eg. Johnny Gaudreau vs. Nail Yakupov. Since Johnny's just a "4th round pick" we should jump at the chance to get 2 2nds for him, but since Nail is a "1st overall" 2 2nds is nowhere near enough, right?
No. If the first trade happened, Treliving would be fired, while if the second happened, Chiarelli would be lauded.

OK..NotKK...call him a "former 5th round pick that priced himself out of his current team"...Getting 2 x 2nds for mere RFA rights is still a good deal for the 'Hawks.

This is the definition of overpaying roleplayers from a championship team.
