CPHL Supplement Draft

First some history/context.
Up until last year, any prospects drafted in the NHL but not in the CPHL was a free agent and available "first come first serve" to any team. However, last year we tried to use this as a chance for some of the asset poor teams to add some assets. The way we did this was allowing only non playoff teams to take part. As we now know, this is a poor way to assess the asset base of an organization.

So this year we are going to leverage Hesla's asset summary and allow the following teams to select those players. Once again, it will be a snake draft. Once a team passes, they can't pick again. We are going deeper in this one to give more teams a chance to participate. There may be as few as one round. That's OK.

If any of those teams don't want to participate you can bow out. Otherwise we can start drafting via this thread once the NHL draft is done.

Players will be added to ECHL rosters for 3 years, just like they were actually drafted.

I prefer this a lot more than the first-come-first-serve nature of the free agent signing, even if I don't get to participate.

Solid idea, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out

In general I like the free agent rule that rewards teams that dig for free agent prospects throughout the year - but this is different because this rewards nothing more than someone paying attention to the NHL draft and being the fastest emailer.

So I think using this to give some of the asset poor teams some additional stuff is smart.

And there are some good ones. Wayne Simmonds was a guy signed like this back in the day. A lot of crap - but some gems to unearth for no cost.

The Carolina Hurricanes are pleased to not be included on this list. After being out of the playoffs for 6-7 years then finally making the post season on the final day of the schedule it looks like the 'Canes are finally getting their poop in a group... Because I know it wasn't my drafting

You can go above your limit in the offseason and then release guys. Heck I have 35 ECHLers right now

Yep, draft lots never know where they will be drafted in NHL.

Heck one of the supplemental picks could be a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the NHL draft,,,

Its dirt cheap to release ECHLers.
