Default Francis: Penguins want 6th OA for Fleury

http://www.calgarysun.com/2016/06/20...ing-goaltender

Quote:
Otherwise, the Pittsburgh Penguins GM is going to lose out on the opportunity to get something of considerable value for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

The Calgary Sun has learned Rutherford is asking for the Flames’ first round draft pick for Fleury — yes, the sixth pick overall at Friday’s NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo.

It’s not going to happen, nor should it.

Fact is, Fleury’s value started declining heavily the minute the Andersen trade was made and will continue to drop as the Flames explore several other options such as Blues goalie Brian Elliott or unrestricted free agent James Reimer.

That said, the Flames are still interested in acquiring Fleury.

Surely it was explained to Rutherford late Monday that Fleury is five years older and more expensive than Andersen, who is a whole lot bigger than Fleury.

Jury is out on who’s better.

The Flames wanted in on Andersen and made what they thought was a comparable offer to Toronto’s. Calgary owns the 35th pick, which was in play for Andersen.

However, in the end, the Ducks didn’t want to trade the 26-year-old goalie to a division rival. Fair enough.

He knows it'll end up being a second round pick, this is just bargaining 101. He wants to end up with the 35th pick instead of 54th or 56th.

Just wait until after you draft the #6 pick. Then go back to Rutherford and see how much he is sweating.

Remember when the Rangers were supposedly going to get the Flames or Oilers 1st round pick for Talbot?

As noted in the other thread, if the cost is being discussed can we assume Fleury has waived or agreed to waive?

If the 6th was available for a goalie it would've already moved for Andersen. So get on with it Rutherford.

Not necessarily. Flames reportedly had agreed to a trade to acquire Ribero and Phoenix's 1st, but Ribero wouldn't waive when asked.

A lot of teams won't approach a player about waiving his NTC/NMC until the price has been settled.

I wonder if the Flames countered. If so, I wonder what they offered. Bill Arnold?

We countered the offer using similar logic as Pitts in the form of over evaluating. Wideman is our best defenceman just entering his prime. Straight across.

Is Rutherford still drunk from the Stanley cup party? Yikes.

That's hilarious.

Think of what caliber goalie we could/should get if our 6th overall were in play. It's definitely not a post-apex goalie who will have to be protected when it comes to the expansion draft.

Kids, don't do drugs...

Seriously though, this is either a negotiation tactic or he's not interested in moving MAF (or moving him at a very, very high price).

Lol Murray maybe (even then with Gillies I don't do it) no chance the Flames trade 6 for a 32 year old. Fleury is a good goalie but has his warts. I think 35+ something small or both of our late 2nds or just sign Reimer

I hope Pittsburgh overplays their hand and the Flames move on to a younger and better target, like Calvin Pickard.
