[Signing] Winnipeg Jets resign Michael Hutchinson for 2 years

Michael Hutchinson is staying with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets agreed to terms with the pending restricted free agent goaltender on a two-year deal worth $1.15 million annually.

The 26-year-old netminder posted a 9-15-3 record last season with a 2.84 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in 30 appearences.

Hopefully the Jets can buyout or trade Pavelec in the last year of his contract.

Had to happen. He's a good goalie and Pavelec is a bit of a sideshow. They are going to need Hutchinson to shoulder a bigger load this year.

I think Hutch was signed in order to protect Hellebuyck in the expansion draft. Comrie is not eligible, and Pavelec would be an UFA. That leaves the Jets with a choice of leaving either Hutch or Helle unprotected.
