Ok, so they have to protect Beauchemin in an expansion draft so they better hope they can get him to waive, otherwise kiss Zadorov goodbye.

McKenzie isn't reporting anything. He is just RTing a quote from Sakic.

This is what I also thought, can the Flames take advantage here and make hay out of this situation?

Barrie is awesome. I know several Oiler fans who were convinced they were getting him. This makes me happy.

Gio, Brodie, Hamilton, Barrie. Then lose one of them for nothing to LV?

Protect 4 + 4 + 1 and lose none of them.

Good. I thought this rumour was bologna from the start. Barrie is very clearly on the upswing, so why trade one of their few good defenseman away only to have to refill that void? I get that he will command a high salary. But guess what? Top defenseman do. That is NHL cap life. Trading your best players away as soon as they want to get paid is a great way to keep your wheels spinning. I get that the Avs have an internal cap. But sometimes you have to suck it up if you want to stay competitive.

Not correct.

When you factor in to what we'd need to pay Barrie in that dream scenario, we'd definitely and ultimately be losing someone in that group.

The 4 + 4 + 1 idea for the FLames might seem okay right now, but it could look very different in a year.

Probably safe to say almost everyone would agree with Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett and Backlund.

That would mean that Frolik, Ferland, Shinkaruk and Poirier could all end up being the player lost.

Right now, that doesn't seem like too big of a deal (I would be pissed if we lost Ferland), but the whole idea is that these players are still being developed. The Flames NEED one of them to step up and take the next step. And if they do, bam! they're gone in the expansion draft.
