I'm hearing that gas prices in Edmonton are at $1.24 a litre now in some stations. Anyone notice anything similar in Calgary? That's a huge bump from the $101.4 it was earlier today.

No suprise there..long weekend is around the corner, then the demand for gas slowly sinks until May, so the retailers must raise (gouge) while they can.
Its been just under (around .97) for the last couple weeks here, so a 25-30 cent raise would get real ugly, real quick.

there's an email circulating to boycott all gas stations for tomorrow. I'm tired of the bullshinguard the oil companies spew out. It's all a bunch of crap that there's any kind of scarcity, it's all artificial.

The article in today's Calgary Sun mentioned that it would be going up across the country for the long weekend. Fill up now.

Just heard on QR that gas prices went up overnight (and presumably are still going up) 5-20 cents per litre across the country.

Instead of complaining go and buy shares in oil and gas companies. I hope all those SCV loving folks are having a good time at the pump.

Maybe people should look at why gas is so much. Its freaking 40% tax. Maybe we should boycott the liberal government somehow. Without all that tax, it would be a manageable 60c a litre here.

A small part of the reason gas is going up might be the long weekend coming up but the big reason is all of the refinerries down in New Orleans are all closed and is driving up the price of oil, which is now over $70 a barrel I believe. Some talk that gas prices will stay high for a few weeks until things settle down in the states.

I totally agree!
I have been trying to boycott the federal liberal government for years. Most of Western Canada has been with us. The problem is the people east of Manitoba. It is those people that need to figure out that there are other alternatives to the liberal government.

There's no competition at the refining level explaining the gouging.
Tax has nothing to do it. Do you know what would happen to your precious roads if we got rid of the tax?

A big reason is the Hurricane, currently my company has 'lost' 7 oil platforms in the Gulf (and thats all they currently know about). Also all of our on-shore production is shut-in in that area due to the flooding.
Also there are a lot of refineries in that area that are down (as if capacity wasn't low enough as it is)

my dad e-mailed me today saying that it was $1.20/litre in Sydney, and $1.47/litre in Port Hawksbury, and that I should get my gas for the trip back to Sydney ASAP.
Fortunately I filled up this morning at the low low price of $1.109 - talk about savings!
is it sad that I'm 23 and I can remember a time when gas was like a dollar cheaper a litre?

Those all do effects on the gas prices. But what happened with the refineries in New Orleans, the off-shore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico SHOULD NOT have affect on the price of gas that we pay at the pump today or tomorrow.
It will have an effect in the comming months. Anytime you see a price hike in gas prices the few days after the futures market gas price increases, is purely the oil and gas industry gouging customers.
There should be about a 2-3 month buffer from the gas futures price increase, and an increase in prices at the pumps.
What is going on right now, is just pure insanity.

Exactly. And in 2-3 months, when prices continue to rise, they will blame it on the events in New Orleans.
Somewhere, at some level, the entire globe is getting screwed with high fuel prices.
