confirms there are guys at the World Championships they are looking at bringing over, this year or in the future depending on their contract

responds to Kerr's question about goalie Mikkos Kiskonen, who he say just signed an extension which is worth $5 million/year and may be difficult to bring over

no magic date for their coaching search

confident going to get right person and right fit for the team

getting it done quickly is not an objective

Doesnt sound like Gelinas or Sigalet or Pringle will be parting ways with the Flames anytime soon. Coach may get full autonomy to build his staff but Treliving doesn't want to let those 3 go. Might be a tough sell for a few candidates.

will have to discuss with a new head coach if he will have total autonomy with his assistants

thinks a great deal of Gelinas and Sigalet, sees them having a role in the organization going forward

I'm curious as to what management sees in Gelinas. Most people want him gone due to his work with special teams.

Sigalet as well. His goalies saw the 11th least shots against and were dead last in GA/G.

I don't get it.

I understand your point, but there is a "can't polish a turd" element to him. Give him a capable tandem and see what happens.

I know right? It's almost as if there is more going on behind the scenes than what us fans can gather with our very limited outside perspective on the situation.

Shouldn't that apply to all of the coaches though?

Treliving reinforcing his trust in Gelinas and Sigalet just makes it seem more and more like Hartley had a character flaw. It's illogical to keep the coaches who's focus was special teams/goaltending when they finished dead last in both PK and GA/G. Maybe Gelinas just stood there for 82 games and had no input?

I really hope he knows what he's doing.

Gelinas is loved in that locker room .

Served the preds as a players development before coming back to Calgary.

#23 is good luck to have around IMO....work ethic alone on the ice when he was a player...if half the current roster could have all his good habits we'd be in good shape.

Maybe. But specials teams are about Xs and Os, not back-slapping and working out.

Some thought Hiller and Ramo overachieved in 2014-15 with Sigalet. Sigalet also did an excellent job in the AHL right from the start with Danny Taylor, Leland Irving (until he fell apart), Barry Brust and Joni Ortio. In 5 years with the Flames it could be argued that the only goalies to play poor under him that were worth a damn was this season and Irving after the lockout which was extrapolated but terrible team defense. The goaltending coach also has no control over how goaltenders are used, all he can do it work on fixing problems and as we saw with Ortio down the final stretch he was ducking much less than he had in the past on high shots; that is something that the goalie coach would have been working on him with.

I am too lazy to look it up, but there was an article during Ramo's strong play this past season that cited the work Sigalet did with him, and how it benefited Ramo's game. IIRC, it also alluded to something about Hiller not working as much with Sigalet as Ramo did, as Ramo was more eager to be coached than Hiller was (or something to that effect).

Based on that article (and it was the only article I have read that touched on Sigalet's work either good or bad), I can see why Treliving wants to retain him.

Sigalet's goaltenders have had 1 poor year in 5 with the organization, in every other year you could argue that the goaltenders overachieved.

Gelinas has a history with player development prior to become an assistant coach in Calgary. It is very possible as an assistant part of his duties were working with young players due to that background. It was also stated "role within the organization", I believe this is specifically about Gelinas. With his player development history they could be looking at him in that role.

Also like other posters have posted we don't know what was going on behind the scenes. For all we know Gelinas was asking for certain changes on the PP/PK and Hartley wasn't implementing them. AN assistant coach can only do so much.

I would be interested in this because I thought that Hiller's failure to improve and fix some obvious flaws logically could be traced back to Sigalet's failure to coach him past it.

The goaltending last season wasn't great either. Hiller had a run of games when he let in the first shot. He spotted the Canucks a 3-0 lead in game 6 as well.

The Flames had to outscore their suspect goaltending a ton last season, but at least their goalies stole a couple wins (Chicago)
