Scenario: Big 5 are gone who WILL they take?
based on what you have heard, read and seen from the Flames, not your own personal opinion.
Thought a tighter poll of a likely scenario would be interesting.

Olli Juolevi.
Tall, skilled, well-rounded defenseman. Just hope he fills out that frame, but should be a very good NHL defenseman.

Kind of disagree with the wording since Chiarelli has talked about 4-9 being solid, Burke has talked about a big ledge after 8 for the Flames, Treliving has referenced a small ledge after 6 and after 7. So I think talking about a big 5 is a touch misleading. These consensus lists are causing people on HF to think there's a ledge after 5 but nothing we've heard from scouts or GMs agrees with that.
All that said I know what you're getting at, it's easy to guess 5 names of our top 6, top 8.
I personally would guess it's Chychrun. I think he has all the tools. I think his mediocre end to the year won't erase the rest of the the last two years where for most if not all of it he was considered the top dman.
Tough call though, I think it could easily be Juolevi, Brown or Sergachev instead.

Brown or Chychrun is who I think they will take. Voted Brown for this poll since I believe they will go with a forward.
IMO the Flames will place value on the combination of Size, Skill, and Skating that those two players bring to the table.

I have a feeling Brown is going to be a stud, but isn't ranked high enough. I'll put money on Chychrun (if the draft order stays the same)

Just a hunch but I predict the Flames will swap picks with Phoenix and take Brown.

They'll draft the BPA. And Burke said in an interview I posted in the draft thread that if two players are tied in their rankings they'd take the dman over the forward and the centre over the winger because D is more important than forward and centre is more important than wing.
If Tkachuk/Dubois go 4/5 I think the BPA is very likely to be a defenceman. Frankly we don't have any future top pairing dmen in the system so drafting one isn't a bad idea. NSH has shown you can always trade them for whatever you need. Dmen are very, very valuable in trade.

Big 5 seems like a mythical wall based on the Flames pick. There's two guys at the top, a 3rd guy and then probably 5-6 guys in the mix but with 3 guys clearly being the favourites (Dubois, Tkachuk, Nylander). It would be a huge surprise if Matthews/Laine/Puljujärvi aren't the first three guys taken. After that it wouldn't be a big surprise if someone goes off the 'board' a bit.

Sad handle.
Agreed. There is a very good chance we don't draft 6th.

Flames have a huge lack of depth at RW. I'd be shocked if they don't take Nylander if Tkachuk and Dubois are gone.

As FDW stated, possibly poorly worded.
I'm not suggesting there are 5 above everyone else, or that that's where the ledge exists.
Just wanted to see an actual poll result on who you think the Flames will take if the 5 guys many expect to be gone are gone.
I went Nylander. I think he's always been 6th within 4-6 ledge.

Tell me about it. That said I'm no longer in Edmonton but can't seem to change my name.
I wish we could trade up into the top 3 but I don't think we have what it takes to get there...or rather aren't willing to part with the players it would take to make it happen.
If the concensus top 5 are gone I'm okay with trading down a few spots.

I'm torn between Nylander and Chychrun. Leaning to Chychrun because I think he played a little time at forward this past season

Probably Brown. Don't see a player like Nylander on the Flames' radar.

Can i vote again next week? Or weekly?

Personally see them taking Keller before they would take Nylander.

The more I read about Tyson Jost the more I like. Flames trade down and go off the board a bit.
