Well this is a no-brainer.

I don't get the votes for anyone but Kane, this is one of the easiest Hart award choices ever.

It is the award for the most valuable player, not a personality contest.

I'm really surprised to not see holtby on here over Benn or Crosby. You'd think tying a goaltending wins record would get you there.

I've never really understood Kane's case with this trophy, but I'm probably out to lunch.

IMO, the Hart should go to the player most valuable to his team. Now, I'm not saying that Kane and his 100-some points aren't insanely valuable to Chicago, it's just that there are so many other players out there who were so much more valuable to their teams. If I was voting for this, Kane would be third on my ballot, behind Holtby and Crosby.

But, I understand how the Hart is awarded, and it'll easily be won by Kane. It's just that this award doesn't go to the NHL's best player, it goes to the MVP - and, in my opinion, Kane, while being incredibly valuable, still isn't as valuable as others. The Flames would be dead last by 15 points without Johnny. Not saying he should win the Hart - he shouldn't - but it's something.

I disagree strongly.
There are seasons where your case can be made, but this season Kane was the best player in the league wire-to-wire; he would have been the most valuable player to any team.
The Hawks might not have made the playoffs without him.

Got to say Scorpion, I'm kinda with you there. Take Kane out of the Hawks team, do they still make the play offs? Easily. With Toews, Panarin, Keith, Seabrook etc, they would have still made it in. But for me, it's no coincidence that the Pens took off as Crosby did. I think, given the injuries to Malkin and Kessel having an underwhelming season, that if you took Crosby out of this current Pens team, they don't have a cat in hells chance of even making it into the play offs, let alone be 1 game away from knocking out the favourites.

I think Crosby is more important to the Pens than Kane is to the Hawks this season. The Hawks would still win games without Kane. But I don't think the Pens would without Crosby. But if Kane wins it, so be it. Really not going to get into a bind over this award.

Not sure if I agree JJ.
The Hawks struggled at times, and without Kane's 106 points they are very different team. Plus he is clutch. I don't have stats, but I expect he is contributing better than average in key situations.
I really like Crosby and Benn as well, but I just don't see a great case for anyone but Kane.

This year they may have made the playoffs without Kane but he was their best player and one of the best in the NHL this year. Toews is as good cuz Kane can do the scoring and Toews can bring the intangibles. No way Panarin has as good a year without Kane.

Kane deserves to be in the convo ahead of Holtby and ahead of Crosby, who showed up for half the year.

Crosby wasn't even the Penguins MVP. When he sucked before the coaching change Fleury and Letang carried that team.

If Kane isn't the unanimous winner, something is seriously wrong with the voting process.

I think the CFL does it right by naming their award the Most Outstanding Player. It is much easier to define and you don't necessarily need to play on a successful team to win it.

The Ted Lindsay trophy is worded as "most outstanding".

For the bulk of the year, the 'Hawks were a "one-line" team...that line was Panarin/Anisimov/Kane...Toews and Hossa really had down, statistical, years...Kane carried this team for long stretches, scoring points in something like, 76% of his appearances...hard to argue against him.

Kasne was just on a whole other level this year. Hawks management had to think "we're paying this guy $10.5M and with this kind of performance still getting a bargain."

I think people get too hung up on the semantics of the term valuable. It may as well be outstanding or any other adjective for best player in the league this season.

Also the idea that a player shouldn't win because they are on a good team is asinine. Miss the playoffs and people say a player doesn't deserve it. Make he playoffs and people say the team is too good.

No matter how you slice it Kane was, by most metrics that matter, the best player in the NHL this season. As such he's the mvp.

Crosby shouldn't even be in the conversation. He forgot to show up for the first 30 or so games. Kane and it should be by a landslide.
