A novel institute that hopes to give Canadian conservatives a much-needed electoral jolt -- with concepts that include a graduate school for right-wing political operatives -- started to take shape over the weekend.

The Manning Centre for Building Democracy will try to break the tightening Liberal grip on federal power by channelling practical advice, training and ideas to politicians, Preston Manning, its founder, said yesterday.

Now . . . . I'm a right winger myself, more or less, maybe, but the Reform Party and Preston Manning were never my favourite people.

I'm just wondering if Preston's school is going to teach right wingers how to lose to an eminently beatable Liberal Party because that seems to be the only thing they've been "experts" about so far.

LOL, he still doesn't get it does he? How about the "Manning Center for Reconciliation"? A conservative minded party is not in power because it's split into two camps right now. Unite the two halves and you can beat 'the Left'. A slight social nudge to the right is probably all it would take...

The Reformers are only 40 years behind the neo-cons, who they appear to be taking their stategy notes from. Hopefully the Reformers don't turn into a bunch of wingnuts like the PNAC.

I think you mean the other way around. The Conservative Party is unelectable because Canadians don't like their social policy. Sell Canadians on the notion that they're a purely fiscal conservative party with a moderate social agenda and they'd have a genuine chance to beat the Liberals. Hell, a left-winger like me might even vote for that party.
