Default Lady Byng finalists: Kopitar, Barkov, and Eriksson

Think this got lost yesterday in all the draft lottery excitement. Not the most exciting award but I thought Johnny might've got a nom. Or O'Reilly (but the Timmys incident is probably still hanging over him).

We need an award for the least penalized star because the NHL is a seven-year-old's T-ball league.

This probably goes to Kopitar.

I'm happy that Gaudreau isn't in this. A lame award that nobody even wants to win.

Bouwmeester should have 10 of these by now.

Bouwmeester is missing the "high standard of playing ability" part of the trophy.

Disgusting.

I'm betting we were all pretty happy for Hudler to win this same award just last season. He also happened to give one of the more memorable acceptance speeches at the awards.

It's a nice way of awarding the highly skilled guys that everyone claims to love. However, it should be noted that all three of the nominees are big bodies who don't shy away from contact and play an incredibly strong defensive game while putting up a large amount of points, yet are incredibly disciplined players in that process. Quite frankly, if these were the types of Lady Byng nominees every year, I'd want a whole team full of them.

Gretzky said something like he was embarrassed to win the Byng and his teammates made fun of him, but after seeing the names of great players engraved on the trophy he somewhat appreciated it.

Also it is interesting, that because of this trophy, Lady Byng is arguably more well known than her husband who was a very important figure in Canadian history.

I'm legit shocked Johnny isn't even nominated. I thought he was going to win it.

The NHL probably didn't want a Flame to win it two years in a row.

Totally agree.

However, I fear Mr. GRIT ( Ricardow) will need some convincing.

I don't see how Johnny doesn't get a nomination this year. 10 minors all year, 78 pts in 79 games, is the definition of that award - he plays the game with the most sportsmanship/gamesmanship and he has waaaaaay more high end skill and ability than a couple of the guys selected there.... eriksson?? come on man. Heck Monahan could be thrown into the discussion if Barkov is there, Mony posted 63 pts and 9 minors.

With Hudler moving on the Flame vote got split between Gaudreau, Monahan Brodie and Frolik.

Barkov and Kopitar play a tough enough game that they create space, win puck battles and do not need someone to do the dirty work on their line ...

Eriksson is more of the traditional Lady B candidate in that his ability to be skillful requires teammate who are not traditional Lady B candidates.

Eriksson is a UFA.... a RW... and so far I have not seen one CP lineup suggesting he has the skills required to fill the deficit in the Flames lineup

He's got plenty of skill. He'll also get a plenty big contract that would be next to impossible to fit under the cap With Gaudreau and Monahan almost certainly getting big raises this summer.

Doesn't Eriksson have a worrisome concussion history too?

I agree that the Flames should not be signing any high price free agents as they will have very limited Cap space for the next 4 years.

It has not stopped CP posters from penciling in Backes and Lucic. (as a Wideman/Smid/Raymond replacement)

It will be interesting what Erikkson will get paid.... Will it be based on his 30 goals 63 pts season (.76 ppg) or his previous 3 seasons .6 .6 and .58 ppg seasons

He is 31 in July. Hudler is 18 months older.
