Default First Overall Picks That Have Played For The Flames.

Discussions on CP are, for obvious reasons, very draft-centric so I thought I would get in on the action.

It is abundantly clear that the Calgary Flames have never had a 1st overall pick at an NHL draft.

Now I was wondering though what 1st overall picks have ended up playing for the Flames later on in their careers.

The only one I can think of is Owen Nolan.

Anyone know of any others?

I can't think of any tbh. How the hell did we win a cup in 89 without any first overall picks!?

And this thread is why we should continue to not follow the oilers. No firsts needed to win a cup.

Hammer was underrated. Hamrlik made Phaneuf look like a competent -- even good -- first pairing NHL defenseman.

We didn't. Rob Ramage was a 1st overall and came at a cost of Brett Hull. Ramage was then traded for a 2nd rnd pick shortly after.

Hmrlik-Aucoin was a phenomenal pairing in their prime for the Isles... and we ended up with both of them.

Hamrlik was a pretty awesome defenseman in his prime, maybe not 1st overall quality, but a nice career in the end, I liked him as a Flame too, just wish we had him a few years earlier.

Olli Jokinen and Brad Stuart were also 3rd overalls. Don't think we ever had a 2nd overall (in Calgary, there have been a couple in Atlanta).
