I requested one and was turned down, is it worth a shot to give it a try again? Will I be able to keep my date of signing up still, that's one of the few things that keeps me from getting blown out of the water by posters who disagree with me.

Send a PM to the "moderator" handle and the staff, not necessarily me, will take a look at what you want to do.

If you were denied before there might have been a valid reason.
