Default Lottery Fix - April 27th

http://www.calgarypuck.com/2016/04/l...ix-april-27th/

This is one of the worst in my mind.

Calgary stays at 6th but the teams in front gobble up all the top forwards.

Only thing worse would be oilers or nucks swapping into 1st spot

I think the oilers getting 2 or 3 would be worse than them getting first overall. This one is bad.

Not the absolute worst, but pretty damn close to it.

In this sort of scenario, I could see Treliving trying to move up into the Oilers spot by offering a combination of our picks plus one of our better defensive prospects (Kylington or Andersson). Say we were to get Dallas' first rounder, then our first, plus the Dallas first plus Andersson.

Terrible. The Oilers and Canucks get 2 potentially elite wingers, conference rival get another franchise forward. We drop and have to take a defenceman, leaving our top 6 issues unsolved for 12 more months.

Horrible outcome, can't see how it could get worse tbh.

I gave it a 2 rather than a 1, because no rival team moves up in the draft order. Toronto moves down, Colorado moves up.

Nothing against Sergachev, but I'd much rather have one of the players drafted in the top 5. He'd be a great prospect, but after a painful year like this, I'd want more. While he might be the best dman in the draft, I could also see him going 9th or 10th.

In this case, we could maybe hope Dallas gets to the conference final. Perhaps we could trade them back their first round pick for Nichushkin or something, who seems to have fallen out of favour there.

The first 3 picks go to conference rivals? That gets a 1 from me.

I suppose Oilers 1, Nucks 2 is technically worse, but the overall result is pretty much the same. I don't hate the Avs, but we don't need a conference rival getting better either. 1 for me. Boo Bingo.

The Avs nabbed Stastny in the 2nd round once upon a time.

Then they got Duchene and O'Reilly in the same draft.

Not long after that they snagged Mackinnon.

They've done sweet F all with all that awesome home grown center depth, so if they pulled a rabbit out of the hat and got Matthews I would be so damn annoyed.

Also, EDM and VAN getting Laine and Puljujarvi is completely unacceptable.

This gets a -1 from me.

Blah... this is a 1. Oilers and Canucks in the top three and the Flames make a bad pick.

Trading down or not some forwards available would be

Nylander - skilled but inconsistent, could be gun shy
C. Keller - skilled but small
Gauthier - goal scorer who's production fell off
McLeod - fast and skilled but lower production
Jost - excelled at Under 18s and looks well schooled
L. Brown - big skilled, good potential

Drafting a defenceman wouldn't be terrible as we could always exchange him for a forward if needed.

This daily exercise is starting to really get me down. I haven't looked at the actual statistics of where the Flames wind up drafting in regards to where the odds say they can draft, but this just looks bleak. A top 8 pick will be great but man, would it be nice to get top 3.
