Not all go by these names commonly, of course, but let's just say it was easier to remove those that aren't.
Also the pronunciation is an interesting question. Obviously the Cz makes a 'ch' sound, and the ch make a 'k' sound. So this would be 'Chekia'?

He meant there's no other country using Czech, so no need for the differentiation. (I think)

I don't understand why a country wouldn't sell its naming rights to a mega corporation.
Like General Dynamicslovakia
Or
Googleland
Or Microslavia.
They could help their budget, and because the earth looks exactly like a junior highschool globe you could see the name from orbit.

Fair, still, it goes for every other country that uses it. No other country called China, but it's the People's Republic of China officially.

Why do we often call countries by a name that no one in the country calls it?
Why do countries require an English name?

Are they going to rename The Netherlands "Netherlandia"?
I still call them Holland, just to be a rebel.

Where did you get the list from by the way? Surprised to not see Republic of Ireland on there, especially considering it's actually a name we use in soccer.

Yeah I did find that strange too. I thought it just said Ireland, but maybe I deleted it by accident. From the UN site
https://www.un.int/protocol/sites/ww...fcountries.pdf
EDIT: Yeah according to this list, it just says Ireland. So I dunno, maybe they are the one who is the other way around (IE, Officially it's just Ireland, but refer to themselves as the Republic of? No idea haha)

OT, but I have always found it odd that there is the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for soccer, but only Ireland (a combined team) for rugby.

Of all the countries on the list with Republic in the name, you picked one where there ARE 2 countries (at least arguably). The official name of Taiwan is the Republic of China.

Huh, interesting. I only see The People's Republic of China. Taiwan isn't actually on the list. Not a UN nation?
