I don't mind this one too much. Van getting #1 sucks but Edmonton to #5 makes it less painful. Calgary at #7 is what I've prepared myself for at the end of the month anyway so it doesn't bother me to see them at that spot. They are going to get a solid player at that spot. I have a lot of faith in the scouting department going into this draft.

I give it a 5.

That's just horrible. I would probably shed a tear if Vancouver got the first pick while Ottawa, and Montreal locked up the top 3 despite finishing behind the Flames. Solid 1 from me.

I'll give it a 2, Edmonton and Toronto are out, but 2 teams behind us jump over us. Not good.

I hate you Bingo, you're ruining the off-season for me. I was supposed to not be sad anymore after the bad season for the Flames ended.

1 for me. Vancouver and Montreal in the top 3 is awful. Us moving back a spot is also awful.

Don't like our division rivals getting top 2 or 3 picks. I'd be happy with Tkachuk though. I'll give it a 3.

Not ideal but this still checks off the most important boxes.
- Edmonton not 1st
- Flames get a good pick
Honorable Mention: 2 of the 3 picks go east

Going with a 5

A solid 3 today only because Edmonton lost out getting a top 3 spot.

What this whole process is telling me is that on April 30th, I need to be prepared for it to end up really really good, or suck really really bad.

There really has been no in between results for me.

I gave it a 2, but after reading Bingo's mock draft, it's probably closer to a 4. That mock draft does make sense.

It's an interesting process with the three team lottery. What looks like a bad result can actually be a decent one if the right teams miss out. This year with the Nylander unification option and the Canucks and Oilers probably both leaning to defensemen, a good winger seems to fall to the Flames at 7 often in my mind anyway.

9 more days ...

Only good part of this is Edmonton being pushed out of the top 3. Vancouver with the 1st, and 2 other Canadian teams pushing the Flames down two spots is a relatively horrible outcome.

While I agree with the notion that the mock draft would make this a fairly palatable result, I just can't see Toronto selecting Nylander there. Could they have value in uniting the brothers? Or would that possibly make for a bigger headache down the road when contracts need to be signed, or when one brother is unhappy with his ice-time or role on the team? I can see the attraction, but there would definitely be some possible drawbacks. I just don't see Toronto passing up on Dubois there, or at the very least, grabbing Tkachuk and uniting him with Marner. To me, that would probably make more sense for them.

That would leave Calgary with the choice between Nylander, McLeod, Sergachev and Juolevi - I think I would want them to draft one of the latter two at that point just based on upside, but would walk away from the draft feeling that an organizational hole hasn't been filled long-term.

I remember hearing from someone with the Leafs, I think Babcock, that they were ecstatic because they were guaranteed one of Matthews, Puljujärvi, Laine, or Dubois.

I don't think there's any chance they take anyone but one of those 4 if they keep their pick. Why would they come out and say that unless it had some credence?

Yeah Nylander to TOR is a nice story. But the guy who runs their draft is a Hunter I believe isn't he? And the other Hunter still runs LDN I believe? Would not surprise me if they adore Marner's line mate Tkachuk. A d-man makes some sense for TOR too as they still need another top pairing guy long term. Dubois could be a fit for them too. How much input does Babcock have? Does he get any say in these draft meetings about what type of player they need?

It's really hard to predict what TOR could or would do. I wouldn't pencil in Nylander there although it's a possibility.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more people romanticizing Nylander to Calgary. It's his birth place! His father played here! What a story

I'm not sure on the timing, but Mark Hunter (who is with the Leafs) may have been the one who drafted Tkachuk for the Knights. He was drafted back in 2013 but spent two years with the US program before joining the Knights.
