Default McDavid may be named Captain next season

According to Sportnet's take on Chiarelli's' press conference, there's a possibility that McDavid could be named the captain of the Oilers next season. He would be 19 years old (same as how old Landeskog was).

Interesting.

Well who else would it be? Their options aren't great. I also don't think making a teenager your captain is ever a good move. They're kind of hooped either way.

Few don't realise how easy it is to become captain of the the oilers. Ference was made one the day he got there.

Meh. Was already taking ceremonial faceoffs, already the face of the team, but at least let him play a full season first

I hope they put all letters on him. C, A, A. All letters for McDavid.

You leave everyon with an A until it is blatantly obvious McDavid is ready for it. As in, after he's done something like win a Hart Trophy.

Was kind of a giveaway when McDavid was taking the ceremonial face-offs.

I agree with the thoughts on them not having a captain for a few seasons first. He's too young.

Well at least it's a skilled player. Since Messier there hasn't been a lot of skilled Oilers captains, only fringe character guys

Jonathan Toews and Crosby did the same thing. McDavid needs his GM to unload some Turkey's and bring in some players who might commit to trying to win though.

Yes the Ference experiment failed but come on Oilers, while your failure is fun, this is getting frustrating as it is so obvious.

Calgary is succeeding because our young talent had Gio, Hulder and a coach willing to implement discipline. Edmonton has more on paper talent then a good number of teams, but that talent is all spoiled and wasted.

Go out to market, trade your first round picks, pay a FA a kings ransom for some down to earth, decent talent player with leadership skills and make them the captain!!!!! Trade away upcoming FAs if needed - you are doomed without the leadership of a vet to groom the younger players.

Do you really want more Taylor Hall's????????
