Sounds like it's going to be a big event, especially for a town like this. They've got the whole pier shut down and are going to turn it into a beer garden to host 3000 people. Problem is they want to shut it down at 10:00PM tommorrow night. So at 10:00 you're going to tell 3000 hammered people that they can't have any more booze. The bars in Sylvan might be able to hold 500 people if you violate fire regulations and cram people into them like sardines. Add in the fact that they'll likely be packed with the disappointed few who didn't get tickets for the beer garden and it could be an ugly scene (especially considering that a lot of the patrons will be testorone supercharged 20 year old guys). I hope Coors Light has some damn good security because this could be a riot in the making. It should be interesting!!

I heard good things about this show when it appeared in Toronto. Is there camping available? That would help alleviate the concerns you bring up. Otherwise we may have an awful lot of impaired drivers en route to Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton.

Expect an RCMP Checkstop for sure.

Well it looks like it went off without a riot. I went to check it out and the poor weather certainly detracted from the experience as far as the extreme water sports were concerned. The power went out in half the town and basically shut down a good chunk of the bussinesses that were hoping to cash in on a big day. I think the accommodation concerns weren't too bad as the weather has been really crappy here for like two weeks and has pretty much chased away any tourists that were here. Also the fact that they were only selling Coors Light on site probably kept the anger factor of the crowd down (Thankfully it wasn't the Crown Royal Truama tour!). Still that had to hurt some of the bussinesses on the strip having to shut down when theres like 15000 potential customers walking by every two hours. As a resident I hope that they can bring something like this back again next summer, as anything that attracts people to the town is good. The more people that come to Sylvan Lake, the more potential investors will want to invest in fixing up the properties on the strip, and the better the town will look.
