Flames Ortio indicates that his agent has "talked" with Calgary (nothing major yet)

With Calgary Flames goaltending situation at a turning point, Ortio's time may be coming

Calgary Sun: http://www.calgarysun.com/2016/04/04...-may-be-coming

Quote:
Ortio, who indicated that his agent has “talked” with Calgary (“but nothing major”), wants to be part of the future.

“It’s a great spot to play hockey,” he said. “We’ve got great fans, the best in the NHL. It’s a hockey town. I’ve enjoyed my time here. So, that’s where I’m at. I don’t want to get ahead of myself … that’s something we’re going to look at after the season.
“But it’s wide open for next year.”

I think it's fairly feasible that Ortio would be back next year in a backup role for fair money. $800k x 1 yr?

More than enough issues for him not to be the go to guy next season or for him to get a load of money/term. But more than enough solid play since Ramo went down to suggest he's worth a 1 year deal at less than $1m.

I would look for a two year deal at $1M per

After reading in another thread, I got the impression that Treliving wanted to wait until the end of the season to re-sign Ortio.

1x1 sound about right? Maybe a 2x1.1?

good, probably best for both sides to keep this relationship going. One year contract would be ideal.

I think he will keep getting better and turn into a consistent NHL back-up and possibly one day claim a starting job(with the Flames or otherwise) I'm comfortable doing an approximately 900x2 year deal at this time.

They better be talking. Ortio might be the only way we can have good goaltending next season without spending a 1st round pick or breaking the bank

I knew this was going to happen given that Mono, Gaudreau, Colborne, etc. need contracts and there's only so much space.

I'd go for a 2 years x 1-1.250M. If he breaks out next year we keep him cost controlled for another year.

Would Darcy Kuemper be a good comparable? He had better stats but around the same games played when he signed for 2 Years at $1.25M.

If Ortio wants to stay long term, I won't hesitate to offer him something like 3 or 4 years x 1.5m per. He has proven himself to be at least a solid backup. If he is a career backup, the money isn't devastating. If he earns a starter role down the road with us, this will turn out to be a fantastic deal.

Hopefully Flames sign him as he has looked good lately. Worth a shot I think. I thought I read somewhere on these boards though that a poster had "sources" that already said the Flames have no interest in bringing him back?

Definitely want him back next year not sure Id view him as strictly a backup. I think he could at least split duties in a 1A 1B situation. He shows his best results when he is getting plenty of games in.

Would be happy to see Ortio come back - he is just now coming into the age when most goalies begin to blossom - so we don't know where the ceiling on Ortio can be.

He wants to evaluate with his his staff before making any comittments. Further to that I would think any descion would be made after the Flames have addressed the #1 goalie issue, weather it be via trade or UFA.
