ARZ Promotes 26-year-old John Chayka to GM. Tipett Coach and Exec. VP of hockey ops.

John Chayka will be named GM of ARI tomorrow. Promoted from asst GM, Chayka turns 27 on June 9. Head coach Dave Tippett expanded role.

Kind of nice to see some progressive, out of the box thinking in an era where everyone tries to essentially copy one another. Although, when you see it's Arizona you can't help but wonder if cost was a partial factor in the move.
I like it, I'll be following Arizona's transactions going forward a bit more closely if nothing else.

I'm thinking he signs off on trades, but he would probably be wise to dispatch someone more senior to actually negotiate with other GMs at this point.
