Default Help Creating an App

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this but I am currently volunteering for a non-for-profit organization called SupportWorks and we provide free peer support groups to people suffering from mental illness (The entire organization is run by volunteers).

As we have various different facilitation meetings around the city, I was looking to create a simple (maybe complex as I don't know) phone application that people can download and I was wondering if someone can tell me how easy or difficult this project will be.

I am not a developer by any means and I would like to know how much this would cost or if there is someone out there who has been personally affected by mental health and/or wants to give back to the community through some free help.

For the application (Android and iPhone)
1) I want to set-up different pages that can be clicked on that state basic information such as resources, organizational information, etc.

2) I want a page where we can upload videos (interviews, facilitation sessions, promotional, etc.) that a user can view (this can be connected to YouTube?)

3) This I feel may be the most challenging part. I want an interactive calendar that can be used by a user to determine which meeting space (all in Calgary) is closest to them everyday of the week. For example, if I want to go to a meeting on Thursday, I want to be able to put my address into the search function and then get results back on how close all of the meetings are (in kilometers) and then when you drill down, you can see the different types of routes a person can take, such as via bus, car, train etc. and maybe this can be connected with Google Maps?

As a result, this would be a very simple and interactive way for our participants (who are not always in the healthiest state of mind) to gain easy access to our resources without doing too much research.

Thanks again and I look forward to some responses.

You're right, the first two should be very simple and the last one is what takes some work (maybe).

If it were me, I'd build this as a mobile website that is wrapped as an app as I think that'd be the best way to achieve what you want and make it easy for the staff to update.

For the mapping stuff, would it work if the user just pressed a button in the app, and is taken to Google Maps (a different app) and their GPS location and the location of the meeting spot is all plotted there? That'd be the simplest way to do this, and you'd get all the great benefits of Google Maps.

I am an app developer, and also teach web and app development for a post secondary here in Calgary. Send me a PM and lets talk. This could be a good project for my students.
