Wideman done for the season
harmless play - Colborne and Wideman collide, as Wideman goes down extended his arm and tore his triceps
may not require surgery - going to meet with a specialist - 50/50 he needs surgery
out of the blue he was named co-gm for Canada @ World Championship
wish you were playing in the playoffs but it is a great honour
whenever Canada plays internationally the goal is to win it
some synergies with the World Cup managment to get ready for that tournament
looking forward to gather intel on players named to World Championships - e.g. what kind of teammates they are
never know what becomes available, can use this information selfishly for the Flames
jokes about Flames players making Canadian team
about a month between end of regular season and start of this tournament
GM Meetings:
general consensus is game is in a very good place
got to be cautious about tweaks
3 on 3 OT has done what it was intended to do (reduce shootouts)
coaches challenge has done what it was intended to do but needs some tweaks
will see changes in goaltending equipment - sliming down
expansion draft rules is at 30 000 ft view right now-just gives a taste of what might come
Expansion draft:
step 1 is whether or not if there is expansion
biggest thing from managers prespective is to get ahead of it
talking right now 3d-7f-1 or 8skaters-1
1st and 2nd year pros exempt
unsigned draft players that are more than 2 years from draft (i.e. collegiate players and Euros) will be added to available player pool
[Treliving said something here that both Wills and Steinberg found interesting but I missed it]
idea is to give all teams a full cycle (entry draft, free agency, trade deadline) before an expansion draft
have to model not only your team but what other teams might lose
deals made last time around to protect players
going to see some more different players from Stockton to evaluate if they are ready
There hasn't been a player who has been called up that hasn't been ready to play (in the NHL) - Testament to job being done by coaching staff
been pleased with Agostino,Hathaway,Hamilton
challenge for guys being called up is if they can keep doing it everyday

Correct me if i'm wrong but the Flames have two call ups remaining? Would think they would like to call up Shinkaruk & Grant next if they are ready.

Emergency call ups don't count.

Yes, they have 2 call ups remaining. Hathaway was one, Ortio the other. Wotherspoon, Agostino and Hamilton were/are emergency call ups

the interesting tidbit I missed is that players exposed need to be contracted for the 2017/2018 season and you need to have a certain amount of players available
I assume he is referring to the 25% salary rule, which means pending UFAs like Wideman, Raymond, Smid, etc. wouldn't count to that 25%

Yeah I caught it in the middle for a few minutes and all I really heard him say was just have to be careful with judging players who are doing well with no pressure, didn't want to take anything away from them but just said it's easier to play with no pressure.
Also spoke about Gaudreau contract a bit and said he has a number in his head and Gaudreau and his agent have a number and they got to negotiate and meet somewhere in between. He seemed pretty positive it would get done.

Which radio station was the interview being broadcasted? I'll try to write down some notes if I can find it.
