Default Hiller receives offer to play in Switzerland next season

http://swisshockeynews.ch/index.php/...-from-ehc-biel

Quote:
As Le Matin reports, EHC Biel has made a contract offer to the Calgary Flames' Swiss goaltender Jonas Hiller. The board of directors has approved this offer. Moreover, they are also talking to Reto Berra's agent.

Even though CEO Daniel Villard does not want to confirm this information, he explains that EHC Biel has indeed been in contact with Hiller's agent. At the same time, they are also talking to Reto Berra's agent.

However, Hiller, who is currently in his second season in Calgary, previously stated that he does not consider a return to Switzerland and wants to stay in North America. The same also applies to Reto Berra, as Le Matin further reports.

My sister works with Hiller's wife and Karolina Hiller also said they're probably going back to Switzerland next year.

Would only make sense at this point. I can't see him getting a good (or any) offer in the NHL. Maybe he can get a decent retirement contract over there.

I really can't see him getting any NHL offers for next year.

[insert ‘swiss cheese’ joke]

Just kidding - Jonas was a pretty solid goalie for us last year. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said this year. All the best to him, though - he seems like a good guy, and he had a great career.

What I can't understand is how could his game fall of a cliff in between last and this year?

Granted, he wasn't exceptional last year but was at least an NHL goalie. This year....yikes.

Good luck to him, regardless.

Good question.

Maybe Sigalet is not the right goalie coach. There are elements of his style which result in fundamental exposures and it does not appear that these have been addressed over the course of the year.

Rumor is they asked Marcoux to come back, he took the job in Carolina instead.

I believe at least 1 other guy turned them down as well before they got to Sigalet - maybe Sean Burke?
