Default 16/17 Goalie Situation

Where do you think Treliving goes, UFA or Trade, internal?

Wonder if he uses some of our RFAs and or draft pics to get a goalie this summer/around the draft.

Who do you think he will target and realistically have a chance at landing?

I think he does all of the following:

1) re-signs Ramo
2) trades for someone or signs another UFA (more likely UFA)
3) re-signs Ortio
4) drafts another goalie

Next year:
Ramo
???
Ortio
Gillies
McDonald

Watch how the cap situation unfolds in Tampa and see if you can nab Bishop.

Re-signing Ramo would be one of the biggest mistakes possible. I would take just about any UFA goalie over him...actually I would take every UFA goalie over him.

They'll trade for an RFA young goalie and sign a vet or go after someone like Raanta instead. I hope to never see Ramo in a Flames jersey again. Ortio should be re-signed if he signs a 2 way contract...

I think we go after Andersen at the draft. If that is unsuccessful, we sign Reimer on July 1 and trade for Murray from the Penguins.

I think he goes after Hutchinson from Winnipeg he's the odd man out there, and is a capable backup at the very least. He also still has some potential given the right situation. I think Ramo has a real shot a returning next season as well.

That what I want to happen, prolly not but I don't see what other real options are out there for a #1 on a sensible contract.

Re-Sign Ramo, trade for Neuvirth, re-sign Ortio.

Neuvirth-Ortio on the Flames
Gillies-Poulin in the AHL
McDonald-Simpson in ECHL
When Ramo is healthy he backs up somewhere? Might be easier to not re-sign Ramo.

Just saw the Bishop idea. Likely the best move if possible.

I thought that too but I think if he was a guy they were targeting (trade) they would have picked him up at the deadline.

I truly think they will go the non-trade route (UFA) to protect assets.
Can see them signing Raanta at 3 years for 3.5 mil per.

Trade for Hutchinson, re-sign Ortio and Poulin. Hutchinson is RFA this year, and will sign a 2 year bridge at low dollars.

NHL - Hutchinson / Ortio
AHL - Gilles / Poulin

I wouldn't mind giving Cam Ward or Jhonas Enroth a chance off the UFA list if they are available.

I don't see them going after a backup. They have Ortio and can sign Ramo.

If they are going to give up assets, I think they'll go after a guys they think is a starter.

I can see them going after Bishop. I can also see them going after Reimer.

Would love if they dug a little deeper and plucked a Murray-esque goalie from somewhere. I don't think Pitt will let Murray go, but someone like that, someone ready to take the next step.

Money is a problem, but age is not. If you still believe Gillies is the future goaltender for this franchise, Bishop is the right age to transition to eventually give the reigns to Gillies in his prime while keeping the Flames competitive in the mean time.

That's an option as is Andersen, as well they may be persistent in trying to acquire Murray from the Penguins. If they don't find a starter via trade expect them to chase Reimer in free agency and trade for a backup/1B goaltender. Ramo and Hiller will not be back and it's possible they qualify Ortio and bring him to camp then put him through waivers and send him to Stockton if he agrees to come back.

Here's why I don't see the Murray thing going away...
Pittsburgh can't possibly keep this guy a backup until Fleury is ready to give up starting duties. The timelines won't match up and it's not like you're going to deal Fleury either.

IMO they brought Murray up to not only help w/ playoff run but also showcase him and increase his value for a trade potentially as soon as the off-season who knows.

Think Neuvirth is the favorite in Philly, so you might be able to pry Steve Mason. Steve Mason is one of those unsung guys who really should be a starter in the NHL.
