I find there are a handful of songs that just get played over and over again on the radio, and it drives me nuts. Probably 2-4 times a day on one station:
- New Orleans is sinking - Good song, but I can't stand it now because I've heard it a million times.
- Blow at High Dough - See above
- Magic Carpet Ride - uke:
- The "we must fill our allotment of Canadian content" songs like, Patio Lanterns by KM, any Colin James song (why are these two still played on the radio?)
- Hotel California: should have torn this baby down 30 years ago

I stopped listening to the radio a couple of years ago. Just can't stand the crap on there. The stations here have the same playlist they just cycle through.
Jeremy by Pearl Jam is one that is played at nauseum.
Lightning Crashes by Live is another.

where to start?
They play everything to death. I try not to listen to the radio as they "kill" songs for me all the time.
It passes me off that the only Ozzy song they play is Crazy Train. If I never hear that song again it'll be too soon. Play Diary of a Madman or something different. And Iron Man and Paranoid are not the only songs Black Sabbath wrote.
"Money Talks" by AC/DC. It wasn't that good when it was released, why the hell do they still play it? Dust of the Powerage CD and play something from that.

Oh wow... having grown up listening to commerical radio, and only commerical radio I don't EVER hear any of the songs listed above... I mean EVER!
The first time I was in Calgary my second cousin's husband thought I was some sort of freak because I couldn't get over the fact they were playing GnR on the radio, I was like "Tom... this is Guns and Roses right?" "This is the radio?" "you mean it's not a CD, it's the radio?" "Hold on, hold on, hold on, you mean to tell me they're playing GnR ON THE RADIO?!??!?!"
The most rock type music I hear is Matchbox 20, or Alanis. Wait they play Santa Monica by Theory of a Deadman, and Blvd of Broken Dreams by Green Day. That's it, that's as rock, and young adult as they get. ONLY those songs by Theory of a Deadman, and Green Day, not even like Holiday.
www.capebretonradio.com just have a listen, this is what I had to grow up with. You people complaining about having Pearl Jam, Live, and the Hip (none of their songs EVERY play on the radio, EVER) have no idea how much radio can be painful. To the point that even now in Halifax, I don't listen to the radio. You just learn to ALWAYS have your diskman, or a pile of CDs in the car. Worse comes to worse the silence of whatever your doing... never the radio.

I have renamed CJay to Creedleback. I swear, for a couple of years you could not go an hour with out hearing Creed, or Nickelback, or both! That is the reason I have pretty much given up on listening to CJay.
Sad thing is, I liked all the songs they played, I just heard too much of them.

As a fan of retro music my beef is the fact that when commercial stations play retro tunes is largely always the same stuff:
70s - I Will Survive, Staying Alive, etc.
80s - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Karma Chameleon, etc
There's a lot of great songs from these decades that don't get played at all. Always the same shinguard. Give me some variety damnit!

I swear The Police did a cover of it sometime. I don't really know, I haven't listened to the radio in about 5 years.

Lately, every time I turn on the radio, it is that Killers song. Not sure what it is called, but it goes; "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier".
It's not really a very good song, but it is played sooooo friggin' much. I've come to hate it.
Nickleback and The Tragically Hip are 2 more that get overplayed a lot. Woke up to a Hip song this morning actually. I realize that the CRTC wants a certain % of Canadian content, but there ARE other bands out there that deserve coverage.

I wrote a paper in my undergrad on that, arguing that while the content % should be there, there should be regulations on what's played. At the time I wrote the paper Amanda Marshall, and Shania Twain were played every hour to keep the content % up.
I argued that you can only count one song by the same artist every 3 hours (something like that). Therefore if you played Amanda Marshall at 3:00, and again at 4:00 that only counts towards the content percentage once, even if it was two different songs.
It'd help keep a variety and more Canadian artists played, which is the intent of the regulation.

Absoutely. Jack FM likes to play a song by Plantium Blonde once an hour. Interesting how most their songs sounds the same.

When Jack first came out, I was very happy that there was a station with some variety in the Rock genre. If you recall, at the time there was only CJay that played rock, along with Lite96 and 2 (!) hip-hop/rap stations as well as Country105.
But I hate how all these stations seem to get a set list an only change about 10% at a time. I'll hear a song I hadn't heard in years and thing "Cool", but then I will hear it again 15 more times in the next month before it disappears again. Thanks for killing another tune.

For me, that is one of the very, very few songs a station could play every ten minutes ad nauseum and would never get bored of it.
IMO, the five worst songs of all time, all of which I wish would disapear:
1. 1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
2. Tainted Love - by anybody
3. Roxanne - The Police
4. Killing me Softly - Fugees
5. Money - cant remember who.

Pretty much anything by Avril Lavigne gets played to death. I remember when "Complicated" first came out, you couldn't listen to any station without hearing that damn song!
Also, a lot of the Gwen Stefani songs get played to death. Can no longer stand hearing "Hollaback Girl"
Anything by those little pop princesses Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff get way too much air time, especially given that their songs suck massively! Britney used to get played at nauseum....but i guess her day is over.
I don't really listen to the radio anymore though.. because they are repetitive and because they are 50% commercials, 40% crappy music and 10% annoying radio personalities.

Since I pretty much listen to satellite radio exclusively, I only hear new songs overplayed. After a month or so, there's a different bunch of songs that get overplayed. But if I get sick of those songs, there's another three rock stations I can change over to.
