Default Imperial Esso gas stations Canada wide sold for $2.8 billion

Imperial owned Esso in Alberta to become 7-Elevens. Not sure how this will affect the rewards, speedpass and other programs.

Quote:
Imperial Oil Ltd. says it has agreed to sell its 497 Esso retail gasoline stations to a group of fuel distributors for $2.8-billion.

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. is buying 279 stations in Ontario and Quebec, 7-Eleven Canada Inc. is buying 148 stations in Alberta and British Columbia, Harnois Groupe is acquiring sites in Quebec, Parkland Fuel Corp. is buying stations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and Wilson Fuel Co. Ltd. is taking sites in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Interesting. $5.6 MM per station seems like a lot to me.

According to this Globe & Mail article, Esso is selling the 497 stations that it owns but this is only a third of the 1,700 Esso stations across Canada.

Nice. I've always thought that there was a shortage of 7-11 stores in Calgary so I'm happy to have more stores in the future. I love slurpees and 7-11 has a good reward program where every 7th slurpee is free.

Maybe it's just the 7-11's I go to in the south.

I find that the Mac's Frosters don't have enough syrup or liquid. It seems like I get down to about 25% remaining in a Froster and I've sucked out all the juice and am just left with a junk of flavourless ice.

Interesting, this website (below) indicates there are over 400 Esso stations in Alberta and BC yet the article indicates 7-11 is purchasing only 148 stations. Sounds like Esso is selling "it's" stations which I take to mean corporately owned and not independant ones. Wonder what will happen to those ones.

Aren't those run as franchises?
http://www.imperialoil.ca/canada-eng..._business.aspx

So it depends on if they continue to run it as a brand or spin that off shortly after their stations are sold. Imperial might just get rid of the whole network.

Once you've been to a 7-11 in Thailand ours seems so lackluster in comparison. Beer in the cooler, hard liquor behind the counter, and toasties

Taquitos are gross and full of instant regret. Toasties are amazing and sober you will have no problems with drunk you eating one or three

Parkland also bought the "On the Run" chain.

FYI: Just cause a station is branded as Esso or Shell doesn't mean it's owned by them. It's just a branding agreement. So you don't think they're going to sell you sketchy ####.

In the past few months, Esso has ended the Debit Speedpasses (got a gift card for the inconvenience) and also ended the discount at the pump for using a speedpass (got a fuel discount card - 2000 litres at 2.5 cents per litre, it expires in a year so I doubt I'll be able to finish it off). I guess this might be why!

`Foe the Keeds`, Mac`s is the way to go for the slurpee & ice cream combo and still 5 cent candies.

Mac's, the brand that ushered in the era of the chain convenience store for many Canadians, is to be retired by Quebec owner Alimentation Couche-Tard.
Couche-Tard plans to adopt the Circle K brand for most of its locations in North America and Europe.

^^ The good news is that the Froster should survive the name change.
