Wow. Dude's selling off everything! He must be in a bad place. Pretty sad, really.

It's a bit weird some of the package sizes. Like the 49 pucks signed by Belfour/Esposito/Hall. I feel individually they could have gotten more, but now it's limited to only those who will want to re-sell them and those guys aren't going to go too high if they are looking to make a profit off their bid.
And it wouldn't be too bad for a memorabilia shop in Chicago to grab but it appears they only get 1 LOA which hurts the resale value I would imagine. Maybe they just didn't want to go through and grade each puck or something.

just me or would others not want another person's medal too?
I mean, yes, it's a gold medal from an Olympics, that's sweet. But you didn't earn it, it's not yours, so what's the value of it?
Feels like collecting and displaying war medals. Other people did amazing feats and now I am displaying the recognition of those feats which I had absolutely nothing to do with...I just think it's cool I guess?

Is it confirmed that he's on tough times?
I would imagine it's quite plausible that some people don't value actual material possessions as much as others. Maybe Mrs Belfour just doesn't want the clutter around the house?

Not sure if serious but the dude is unloading his vezina trophy. That's a little bit more than "clutter".

Well if he's looking for a job, he definitely won't get one with the oilers after doing this. Focusing on past glories is all they do!

Not a sports memorabilia guy, my basement isn't some silly "man cave" filled with random stuff, I hate clutter and collectibles except for a few items, and a 2002 Mens Olympic Hockey Gold Medal would be a welcome exception. That thing would be awesome to have.
I also don't have upwards of 50k to throw around.

I think it would kind of depend on the circumstances. Like, if Belfour is doing this because he has fallen on desperate times, I wouldn't really want the thing . I'd feel like a bit of a vulture.
If he's just getting rid of it because he doesn't care about all that stuff, or he's selling it for charity, then it would be cool to have.
There was a story years ago about someone finding a bunch of Guy Lafleur memorabilia at the dump. Guy had taken it there himself (IIRC) because he didn't want it and his kids didn't want it, so off to the dump it goes.
I guess some of these guys who "lived it" don't need the constant reminders? Hopefully that's the deal with Belfour.

I get selling off numerous sets of old goalie equipment as "de cluttering" but how much room does a gold medal take up? Put it in a safety deposit box, give it to a family member, donate it to a charity. I'll be watching for Eddie the Eagle on future editions of Pawn Stars.

As mentioned above, some guys need the money; others just don't need the stuff sitting around. Looking at what he has for sale it looks like he did take the time to keep certain items from his career; the one thing I don't see listed are his Stanley Cup rings (which likely would have gotten the most money).
As for the Olympic Gold Medal, he didn't play any of the games so perhaps it means less to him...

So sad.
My all time favorite goalie along with Hasek.
I have a Belfour jersey hanging on my wall in my basement.

Now you can get the pads and helmet to go with it.

Did Belfour even suit up for any of the games in 2002? My memory's a little fuzzy on who the backups ended up being. But if he was just the third goalie who practiced with the team, but was not in any games, maybe he doesn't really care about the medal.

Came to add the Lafleur reference. Some guys don't care about this stuff, it's in their past and they've moved on. Hopefully for Belfour, it's that. Before he died, Jean Beliveau auctioned off a bunch of stuff to pay for his grandkids' college educations etc.

Included with the medal is "the" team photo where they all crowd around after the big win. Belfour is just wearing a jersey. Brodeur is of course front and center and Joseph is dressed as backup.
Incidentally, Eric Brewer was the last man standing from that team, by a longshot. He appears to have retired after last season. So the question is, what the hell was Eric Brewer doing on the Olympic team?
