Flames would have had to put one or Russell or Smid on IR to make a roster spot.
They could have also sent down Granlund.

Yay, hope to see him steal a spot soon. Management sounded pretty disappointed he didn't have a lot of push in training camp.

per the Flames press release Smid on IR, which would mean the earliest he is eligible to return would be against the Kings on Tuesday.

Good for Wotherspoon. Have to think this is a key call-up for him, he really has to make this one count if he wants to have a future with the Flames (given that they have Hickey, Andersson and Kylington in the pipeline).
