Treliving speaking to the media usually indicates it's not good..
@Fan960Steinberg:

If the GM is talking to the media about an injury, it's probably not good.

Hope/imagine that Russell would be playing if they were serious about a playoff push but being so far out of it, might as well keep the trade chip as healthy as possible.

Realistically, for this team to go on a playoff push they've got to string together a ridiculous stretch of play and for that to happen someone has to step into the net and keep it.
Not looking all that likely.

Ouch, so that means he probably won't be ready until training camp.
That could cost him big time and I think he will be lucky to get a camp tryout given he will be a free agent. Teams are going to be filling up their goaltending slots before he can even show that he is game ready.

Have to feel bad for Ramo. Started off extremely poorly and got sent down, but worked hard and returned playing well. Was fairly steady for most of the time leading up to the injury. I would say he was looking like a safe bet to re-sign for next season as a 1A/1B depending on who else the Flames acquired (or if Ortio looked to take that big step as well this season).
Now I am not sure he will get a contract for next year on any team.

Hate to say I called it, but I knew when I saw that play that his knee suffered substantial damage.
Having gone through that injury / surgery / recovery myself, I wish Kari all the best in his recovery. It's a hell of a tough road.

I personally think that depending on his recovery that he remains one of the better options of the free agent goalies out there, especially if you can sign him on the cheap for a one year deal.
We just need to bridge for a guy like Gilles

That's a horrible injury and a massively long time line. Terrible news, and with that our playoff hopes are gone.
So if he contract expires July 1st, is the Flames organization still responsible for his rehab since it happened when he was a Flame? Or does he have to pay out of his own pocket or the PA pay for him?

LOL of course.
Control goalie trade market, get freak accident to totally lose it.

Hopefully Ramo's recovery goes well.

Ugh..I thought he'd be done for the year, but I didn't realize the damage was that bad. I doubt he gets a contract to begin the year anywhere. That really, really sucks for him. He gave his best for us and played a pretty solid overall game for most of the last 2 years. Before this news I would imagine that Treliving would entertain the idea of re-signing him. I doubt that happens now and it means one less goaltending option for a team already with very few options.
Sucks for Ramo.
Sucks for the Flames. Both this year and going forward.
Looks like we will have to get very aggressive to find a goalie for next year. Neither Hiller or Ortio will cut it and Ramo won't be ready. We now need 2 goalies to start next year at the NHL level. NOT GOOD.

Flames aside, I feel really bad for Ramo. Blowing out your knee as an upcoming UFA is a horror scenario.

We can still try to trade Hiller.
Get a middling backup off waivers or in the trade return. Call up Poulin and have him start the remainder of the season. Keep Ortio in Stockton. Simpson backs up Ortio for remainder of season down there, a Khudobin type backs up Poulin. Or plays, whatever. None of these guys are the future. tank tank tank.
