Flames in Arizona on Feb. 12, 2016
Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice so if I posted in the wrong spot, please let me know.
I haven't seen live hockey since the 2004 playoffs at the Saddledome and was thinking it might be nice (and economical considering it's the Coyotes) to introduce my fiance to my favorite sports team during her first trip to North America next week.
Most NA sports ticket sites (Ticketmaster, Stubhub, etc.) are blocked where I am now. Actually a lot of online shopping sites are blocked here, not sure why. I'm going on a leap of faith that Coyotes tickets are still available, so would it be wise to buy online as soon as I land on non-communist soil or is there a cheaper/convenient option to buy at Gila River Arena?
Also, anyone coming to the game want to help me show her how awesome hockey and Flames fans are?

You shouldn't have trouble finding tickets. There are usually lots of resales available.

ARI has only averaged 13000 fans this year, 2nd last to CAR.
Whatever method you choose, you will have no issue getting tickets.
Enjoy!

If you do go watch the Flames/Coyotes game, start a chant and say "WE WANT SCOTT!!!!" and maybe the NHL will give in and have him back in the NHL... haha.

I was just there on the 23rd. I bought tickets two days before the game in the lower bowl for $50 each. There were still tickets available an hour before the game. You should have no problem getting tickets.

I have a feeling that for this particular game there will be more tickets available than in previous years.
In previous years some of the western Canada teams like Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver etc would get some HUGE crowds due to the fact that so many people have 2nd homes in the Phx area or their family members, bosses etc
This year from talking to friends and family the travelers from the above cities has diminished a lot. The US dollar is having an effect so I do suspect less fans are going to be going to the game in previous years.
To give you a perspective on how bad the ticket situation is for the Coyotes, I bought 4 seats for a bachelor party exactly 2 years ago. It was for the Pens/Coyotes game and I bought them from the box office. I am constantly being hounded (no pun intended) from my so called "hockey ticket rep" to purhcase tickets, packages etc. No amount of explaining that I don't need to commit to the packages, season tickets, half season tickets etc will get through to these guys. This guy goes into such detail about prospects, picks, coaching and managements thinking its NUTS!!
I had to pretty much threaten to call his manager to stop harassing me but goes to show you how hard this team needs to work to put butt's in the seat. I can just imagine what the sales rep's on the advertising and other revenue streams need to go through.

I am not sure of your travel plans, but if you have a chance to show hockey to your fiancee and see your first game in 12 years, I think you should consider seeing the Flames at a more busy stadium. Almost any stadium aside from Arizona's will be more exciting. But the relies on your travel plans.

Good points about travel by Canadians being down due to the U.S. dollar but the crowds for any of the Canadian teams can be pretty good, and maybe larger than you might expect. This is the President's day weekend in the U.S. and there is a large minor hockey tournament there and in the past quite a few Calgary teams have gone to it (we've done it with my son's team twice but passed on it this year due to cost). Anyway, several years ago the Flames were in town the same weekend so we took the boys to the game, it was pretty much a sellout.
That said I don't think finding tickets will be an issue, I just don't think the building will be half empty either.

Edit:
Holy crap, just looked at the tournament website and there is only one team from Calgary this year and very few from Canada. That's a huge drop compared to years past and I guess is a testament to the low dollar and economic slump in calgary.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Seems like there won't be many Flames fans out this time.
