Default Milan Lucic UFA

When looking at the UFA crop this year one name which has stood out for me for the Flames to pursue has been the big bodied winger from the west coast.

We desperately need size in our top 6, as well as someone who is feared by his opponents. With Hudlers likely departure this year, what does CP think of the possibility of a player like Luc?

It makes our top six very dangerous in my thoughts.

Now that Kopitar is signed I expect LA to ink Lucic very soon

He wants to stay with LA, and I suspect they will find a way to sign him.

For the money he'll be getting, I'd rather take a run at Okposo

I myself would love it. This team is lacking size so badly. I'm sure there will be some pouting because you even mentioned it though.

I'd rather hope we could find someone less... embarrassing to fill our top six.

Lucic is a LW.

One of my favourite players (more because of his potential than his actual), but he doesn't play RW. This team needs a #1 RW.

Smoke and mirrors. Lucic looks good on a good Kings team. His last season and a half with Boston he looked like he had lost more than a step or two.

It's a point of debate but I wouldn't want him on the team I cheer for. The only thing that matches his quick temper is his ego. Hockey is a violent sport yet there are some guys who are a little unhinged to the point they're dangerous. Someone falls the wrong way after a rageout and you've got another Bertuzzi incident.

I don't think anyone "fell" during the Bertuzzi incident.

He was missing Krejci for most of last year (and despite that, still had 44 points), and the year before that he got 59 points. On pace for 50 again this year.

I'd LOVE if Lucic signed in Calgary for a reasonable price. The problem is, I think he'll be massively overpaid wherever he ends up, so I hope it doesn't happen with Calgary.

I could see the Flames, Oilers, and Canucks all pursuing him this summer with the Canucks and Oioers better positioned cap wise to sign him. I think if he leaves LA he is heading home to Van as they refuse to rebuild and will try and reload with free agents this summer

He does seem to fit the Canuck mold quite well. And there is the Chiarelli connection for Edmonton. Both would seem likely to land him. I echo those that say no thanks from a Flames standpoint.

Oilers don't have the cap to sign him to a multi year deal which is what it would take...besides its edmonton why on earth would he go there

I like him, but I think his best days are behind him. If we're going to overpay for a big 27 year old winger I'd rather Okposo

He would fill a massive need. Love to see him here. Skeptical it would happen but boy oh boy, one can dream.

He would be a close flight to his hometown if that's at all important to him.

Not interested - you would be overpaying for what his peak performance is, and his probable (and declining performance) would make whatever contract he would sign in Calgary look awful almost immediately.

Hes going to sign in LA for 7 years @ $1M/year.

Also hes going to work the concession at the Staples Centre after hours for 7 years and $8M/year.

Just a coincidence. Totally unrelated activities.

I see foot speed as so important in today's game, and Lucic is going the other way. I think whoever signs him will regret it unless the current climate forces him into a shorter term less painful contract.

We need a:

Big body in our top 6
A player who uses his size in the top 6
A player who is percieved to have a loose screw

He checks all of those off.

I think the Flames take a big run at him. If I am not mistaken he is good buddies with Bouma and I think he even gave a shout out to Bouma after he won the Cup and HNIC was doing the on ice interviews.

I also think that if he gets to market that Edm and Vancouver also take a run at him.
