4x4 (I think)is going to come in here and tell you about a guy in Riverbend who's as honest as the day is long. I haven't used the guy, but, he comes recommended.

Auto Experts in the NE. I've been sending family & friends business there for over a decade without any complaints. Not cheap, not expensive, not crooks......highly recommend.

+1, they do great work and actually called me a couple days after I made payment to tell me that they accidentally overcharged me by $100. I was shocked.

Very highly recommended.

My Sienna had squeaky brakes, so I thought they needed some work. I took it there, they told me the brakes were fine, they just like to squeak, so they put on some anti-squeal compound and didn't charge me anything.

My apologies. I guess I associate most things driving with you, for some reason. Know any good towing services?

PM Sent,

a friend of mine works at a Toyota dealership but does side work for cash. I get him to do my brakes and hes only $100 more than it would cost me to buy the parts. never mind the time.

I'll PM you his number

I got fed up with the dealerships and all the small privately owned mom and pop shops. The last time I tried a mom and pop, they told me my Matrix needed a transmission flush (the transmission is good for the life of the vehicle) and I needed to replace all 4 tires, but their tire guy was only in town for a few hours so I had to commit to it now.

I just take my car to Canadian Tire now for checkups.

That's why its good to know a mechanic who does the work for cash out of his own garage.

They tried to do you a favour. "Lifetime" transmission fluid is technically correct but if you never replace the fluid the life of the transmission will most certainly be shorter.

It most certainly didn't need replacing, yet alone a full flush, after 30,000 KMs. They also tried to charge me a premium price for the lower grade fuel. I think the issue is I came into the shop with a suit on, so had rich sucker written all over my face.

The problem here is that you almost never have to have any work done to the damn things, they're basically tanks, so how can anyone know who's honest in fixing them with that tiny sample of information?

In seriousness, I've only ever had to have one thing done to my Lexus, and I had that work done at Heninger's shop. I have no complaints, and they helped me out on price and found some aftermarket parts that saved me a few hundred bucks.

I'm going to have to finally do some suspension work in the summer, so I'd love to hear suggestions too, for that kind of job. Not to thread-jack.

PS - this right here?

High quality reference.

Your thinking is the fluid never needs to be replaced, hence the term lifetime. If you want your tranny to die prematurely never replace the fluid. I'm not defending the shop you went to I find almost all of them to be crooked liars but they unintentionally were trying to tell you don't believe the lifetime nonsense.
