Just looking for some suggestions to find someplace new. I think I'm feeling like either a Vietnamese Sub or a Donair.
I've found plenty of good V.S. places (Thi Thi across from Harry Hayes among others)...but where's a good place to go for a Donair downtown? Don't want to go too far (I'm in the Bow Valley, PetroCan, Sun Life area), but can make a hike if I need to.
Any hidden gems you guys like?

Good thread... I am on site until at least the end of the year, in the Husky Tower. Let me tell you, I need somewhere else to eat! I cant stand the thought of going into anymore food courts.
Lets hope some good places to eat come out of this thread. Lets not keep it restricted to any one type of food - I need ideas for at least the next 4 months!
I can suggest the Vietnamese place in the bottom of Gulf Canada Square. I dont know what it is called, but it is pretty good.

Amin Donair? Isnt that where all the homeless hang-out? Forget a Donair, go get yourself some pasta jambalaya at Cajun Charlies in Eau Claire Market. on 8th Ave. between 7th st. and 6th St. S.W. there is a place called the Chick Pea. A lot of people I work with eat there and rave about it. It's mediterranean wraps and such. I have never had it but it smells pretty good.

My favorite Donairs are 'Escape Donair' on 8th Ave and 6th St. It's just to the West of Murph's Irish pub. I love their donairs...I think I am going to have one today!
 thanks for the great idea!

ChickPea? is that on the south side of the street? I work about 50m's from there, and don't know the place.

for Donair I like K.O.D. (King of Donair) it's down on Pizza corner, with Sicilian and European, mind you Sicilian makes a good donair as well.
Pogues Fodo is decent and fairly quick if you're not waiting on a large group lunch time.
The Opa is a good greek resturant just a block down from Pizza Corner on Argyle.
If you're close to Spring Garden, Peel Pub - Your Father's Mustache are good places to get some food.
.... wait do you mean downtown Halifax or Calgary

Burger Burger in the Sunlife foodcourt. Best fast food burger downtown.
Ho Won if you are in a group works well. Get the salt and pepper squid.
Prego in Eau Claire is always good, if a little slow.
NEGoon: Cajun Charlies? Blech....

let me guess, they are wrapped in bacon, deep fried, slapped on a bun, topped with fried ham, mayonaisse and some eggs?

Try hitting the Falafel King on 1st Street SW just north of 9th Avenue. Awesome Falafel.
For dessert, hit the gelato place next door.

There were lots of approvals for Burger Burger in this thread before lunch. Because of that, we made the trek from the Husky Tower all the way to the Standard Life building - about 9 blocks.
Lots of the lunch hour was used walking, but it was worth it. They do have very good burgers - I would say the best ones you could buy downtown. Not only that, the small details are good too; the Coke was good, and the fries were really good. Nice and crispy, and they use seasoned salt too. To top it off, it is reasonably priced. It was $6.39 (plus tax) for the combo of the day, which today was a Bacon/Cheese Burger, Fries, and Lg Coke.
Burger Burger is definately a place I will visit again. However, only on days when the weather is nice - trying to get there on the +15 would take absolutely forever, and you'd still have to cross the last street outside.
