Default Jersey Etiquette

Is it bad form to wear a Flames jersey to a Hitmen game? Going tonight....just wondering if its a "better than nothing" thing, or is frowned upon, or if everyone does it...

"Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation feels that it is acceptable to wear a Flames jersey at the Hitmen game tonight but strongly encourage you to purchase a Hitmen jersey to experience the true essence of what it's like to be a Hitmen fan, and nachos, and a foam finger, hat and horn. Bring money! Lots of it."

Go for it if it will enhance your game experience. You won't be the only one; you will see other Flames jerseys being worn.

According to Habs, Rangers and Flyers fans, you can wear your NHL jersey to any hockey game, at any level, in any part of the world. Heck, even the sport being played isn't important.

And according to Rider fans you can, in addition to any sporting event, also wear them to weddings, job interviews, court appearances, or really anywhere clothing is required. Just make sure if you hit the nude beach to bring your Rider towel and cooler.

If you are over the age of 12, it is unacceptable to where a Jersey of a team that is not playing to a game. I believe there is an old thread on this as well.

I agree, but, given that they are owned by the same company it's a valid question.

With the 35% off sale, I would just go to the dome and buy a hitmen tshirt. I got a nice Teddy Bear toss t-shirt a couple of years ago for 10 bucks.

If this is a jersey crime, it's a simple by-law violation. Could be a small fine, but no court appearance or jail time. We all jaywalk and speed so who are we to judge.

It's not like the real criminal offenses.

Jersey over Jersey (both teams playing) (community service)
Own Name. (6-12 months)
Nickname you've given yourself. (2-3 years)
Wearing a rival teams jersey when they aren't even playing. (5 years)
Wearing a rival teams jersey into the home section at an English football match (a stern beating +10 years)
Frankinjersey (25-life)

Karnaukhov would also be acceptable. Preferable even, if they charge by the letter.

Also, acceptable would be a Brett Carson, TJ Galiardi, Brent Krahn, Fred Sjostrom, or Brad Stuart Flames jersey.

I would think it's exactly the same as "nothing."

Don't bother wearing a jersey for a team not playing. Might as well just wear a sweater.

come on Fuzz.... i live in kelowna and have a hitmen jersey for the one game a year they play in kelowna against the rockets!

one of my favourite hitmen/rockets games was a playoff game a few years ago. hitmen won the game (which was great) but the rockets goals (i think they got two) were scored by backlund - so we'd get up and cheer. the rockets fans were soooo confused and we had to explain to them that he was going to be playing for the flames the next season so we were also cheering for him! ha! ha!

What about a personalized jersey where people go with the always hilarious and appropriate #69? Or a captain's "C" on their personalized jersey? Or both of those things?

And for OP, I think the only time it's ok to wear a jersey of a team that isn't playing is either an All-Star Game or the Super Bowl / Grey Cup / any championship game held at a neutral site, since that's more a celebration of the league and showing where you're from. But even then, the jersey of that team better play in that same league.

But for juniors, somehow that doesn't seem as bad to me than jersey fouls at the pro level. Agreed it's more of a misdemeanor.

So it seams there isn't much consensus, but I don't really like to stick out like a sore thumb so I think we will stick to "plain clothes".

The wrong 'C'. is the same as own name. Over personalizing it, but passable to a layman. So lesser sentence.

69 is the same as the self proclaimed nick name, you think your funny but your not. But in this case no chance of getting early for good behaviour.

I've done it. I don't like the Hitmen branding, so I've never bought any merchandise. At least by wearing a Flames jersey, you show that you are cheering for Calgary.

There were I'd guess 1 in 50 with a Flames jersey, shirt or sweater on last night. So not totally unusual. Good game!

Like I said, more like a speeding ticket than a crime.

Probably better to support a team that is playing, but you want to get there faster by wearing the home town jersey you already have, and most people do it more often than they would admit.
