Default Majority of Canadian Conservatives agree with Trump

And this is what I mean when I say the CPC needs to purge the uglier segments of the party if they ever hope win a majority again.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/gren...a-us-1.3371395

Quote:
The poll by the Angus Reid Institute (ARI) found that 33 per cent of Canadians strongly or moderately agree with Trump's call for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."

While two-thirds of Canadians disagreed (and 49 per cent strongly so), that still leaves a large proportion of Canadians looking kindly on a plan that has been widely condemned both in Canada and the U.S.

And it puts Canadians on almost the same level with Americans. A Washington Post-ABC poll conducted at the same time as the ARI survey found that 36 per cent of Americans supported Trump's ban, with 60 per cent thinking it "the wrong thing to do."

However, despite interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose recently telling the Canadian Press that "I think [Trump's] off the spectrum, frankly … that's not a voice that we welcome in our party," the ARI poll indicates that a majority of Canadians who voted for the Conservatives in October think Trump is onto something.

In total, 55 per cent of Canadian Conservative voters strongly or moderately agreed with Trump's proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S.

What constitutes moderately agreed? I'm curious to see how people justify an answer of "moderately agree".

"Yeah, we should kinda ban them" ??

More proof that conservatism is not ready to make a comeback in North American politics just yet. Hello Hilary 2016.

It's the multiple choice equivalent of "I'm not racist, but..."

Step your game up Canada. Fricken embarrassing.

Sanders would be much more ideal.

Now it seems more apparent why Harper decided to pursue that type of campaign.

I consider myself a conservative, and they never asked me.

For the record I don't "agrees with Trump".

"Moderately agree" is a pretty ambivalent category.

Yeah, I'm not sure how one moderately agrees with a pretty yes or no question.

Please show me where this poll links at all to the CPC party, especially when you have the interim leader saying that those views don't have a place in the party.

the poll is talking about people that voted for the Conservative party supporting views that the party isn't behind.

You're being a little disingenuous here Rube

It seems to be a bit of a drive by attachment by the CBC that says that the Conservative Party said they're not onboard with Trumps view but prior voters agreed with him. It goes back to the whole, it doesn't matter what the party said publically they're clearly hiding something booga booga.

Personally I think Trump is clearly extreme and clearly wrong thinking in his views.

It is actually a hilariously Canadian answer. Like, I could say I would moderately agree with almost anything. Yeah, greater control over our borders, stronger global presence for national industry, support our military. Sure, I moderately agree with all that stuff.

It is pretty indicative that Angus Reid had to lump the "moderately agree" answers in with the "strongly agree" answers.

Which would be why I specified Canadian Conservatives and not the Conservative Party of Canada. Would you prefer if the title read "Canadian Conservatives polled?" Seems rather redundant to me.

Canadians who identify as or vote Conservative? The poll seems to make that pretty straightforward.

I think I must have too many of my friends' dads on facebook or something, because I really wasn't all that surprised by the results.

This reads to me that you're pointing to the party or party members. This poll is talking about Voters. And I'm pretty sure that you can poll any voter and find extreme beliefs whether Liberal or Conservative.

Please show me where anyone in that party is vocally or social media backing Trumps views, or saying, that Trump is onto something that the Conservative Party would like to replicate
