Islamic State is slaughtering babies with Down’s syndrome in a barbaric echo of the Nazis, according to reports.

The terrorists are claimed to have issued a fatwa – a religious decree – sanctioning the killing of children with Down’s syndrome and other disabilities.

Dozens of babies aged between one week and three months have already been killed by suffocation or lethal injection, according to Iraqi activist group Mosul Eye.

The fatwa was reportedly issued by one of so-called Islamic State’s sharia judges.

A statement from the group said: “Through monitoring and following the death incidents of children with Down's syndrome and congenital deformities, we were able to learn that the Shar'i Board of ISIL issued an 'oral fatwa' to its members authorising them to 'kill newborn babies with Down's syndrome and congenital deformities and disabled children'.

According to Wikipedia, 92% of down syndrome babies are terminated in in Europe, and 67% in the USA during pregnancy.

I really don't see a huge difference in what Isis is doing and what the West is doing, except for the fact that the West does it a few weeks earlier in the child's life.

Please show me where the termination of Down's syndrome babies is ordered by the government or by physicians.

The families have a choice under the law that protects woman's rights and the right to choose whether they bring these children into the world or not.

This isn't doctors delivering the children and bashing their skulls in with a hammer or smothering them. This isn't parents being told that they have to murder their children.

I might not be the biggest fan of things like abortions as a method of birth control, but its the law of the land, that's it. And if a mother or a family is told that they are going to have a child with Downs and decide to abort it, that's their choice, its part of the freedoms that we have.

With ISIS, they're saying murder these babies and these children with Downs, and you know its going to happen, because if you don't and your caught by these crazies, they'll probably shoot your baby, and then cut your heads off in a public square as a lesson to others of the price of defiance.

Obviously, monstrous. I refuse to be swayed by any of these moral equivalency arguments. ISIS is a pack of blood-thirsty, moronic monsters. Everything in Western civilization is better than everything in ISIS. Can we comfortably, and unequivocally say, as citizens of this great country, that these sorts of things are undeniably horrifying? Can we agree that formulating a proper response is essential - not only for the humanitarian purposes described elsewhere but to our confidence as a nation?

I didn't say the governments of the EU or the US are ordering women to terminate Down's babies. I'm not even arguing pro-life/pro-choice. I don't need that #### in my life.

I'm pointing out that despite that fact there is no decree from Western governments, there is already a large movement to terminate Down's babies in the West, presumably because the West views them as undesirable humans.

The West and ISIS both view Down's babies as undesirble. The West's method of reducing their population is somewhat different that ISIS's. The results are ultimately the same.

One of those "results" involves terminating a pregnancy in the 10-15 week range, when the fetus is 1-4 inches long and has almost no brain development. The other "result" involves murder of a fully developed human.
