Uh...my wife just bought me a golf date with Ed Jovanovski
So...my wife and I attended a fundraiser tonight in her parents stead. We were instructed to buy something at auction and they would reimburse us.
We looked at a few silent auction things that were no more than a couple hundred dollars. Then the big auction happened and one of the items up for bid was a day of golf with Ed Jovanovski, with lunch afterwards. My wife decided to make a bid on a whim, and it ended up being the winning bid. I won't tell you how much it was because it makes me blush. Ed Jovanovski was at this event too, and ended up donating $10000 to the cause with nothing in return. Stand up guy.
I ended up introducing myself, and he was really down to earth, and had a bunch of dip in his mouth when we were chatting. He met his wife down here over 20 years ago and they've been together ever since. It was awkward, being the fan of his rival for so many years, but I still respect the hell out of him. It's going to be a fun day, and I'll update everyone when it happens.
Just on another note, if you have the opportunity to give anything to a worthwhile cause, please do so. People often fall through the cracks of the most well-intentioned of societies, and organizations, like the one this fundraiser was for, help fill in the gaps. Especially with the tough times happening in Alberta due to the falling oil dollars, make the effort this holiday season to help out your neighbor. It might make all the difference in the world to them, and it might only make a small dent in your pocketbook.

Of course, my wife, being an American with little affinity for hockey, had to google Ed Jovanovski as soon as we got home. She was a little bashful when she looked at his career. I don't think she realized the caliber of player he was until now.

I won't comment on my first impression of him, because he likely had several drinks before we chatted, but yeah...I could see that.
But, whatever, he's a super nice guy who continues to do charity work after he's retired. Good on him.
From how he was with fans and at team events when he was playing here he seems like the kind of guy who will be fun for something like this too, won't treat it like an inconvenience
