Default Transborder moving companies

As I posted in another thread, I'm moving to New Orleans in January.

I'd like to ship my furniture and housewares down there, but have no clue where to start looking for a reputable moving company.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you look into the border side of things too, in regards to importing your personal goods. I believe there's some paperwork.

I found it so difficult to lineup my closing date on my Canadian home with a new lease in the USA and the ETA for all my things with several movers (I think Williams is the best IMO) that I rented a one-way U-haul and just took a leisurely drive down. Took me 3 days.

Since my home was less than a full truckload, the transit time was anywhere between 7 and 28 business days. I was like WTF? Plus I had to deal with all the immigration stuff for myself and my spouse that it was just a nightmare.

Have fun with your move

I'm not sure how much stuff you have, but unless you have a real attachment to your furniture or it's really high end stuff you'd probably want to look at saving yourself the hassle, sell your stuff up here and find new furniture down there.

You may want to consider using something like Pods or Upack. I did it the other way (US to Canada), and it was pretty convenient. They delivered the container to our driveway, we packed it up at our pace, and then they shipped it to Calgary.

Consider calling Paramount Transportation Systems. Their contact information (last I checked) is below. They moved me from the US to Calgary and back--no damage on the move up, a little damage (due to poor packing) on the move down, but no hassles in getting reimbursed for the damage. I think they handle corporate moves, and I have no idea what they cost, but they might be able to suggest another outfit if they can't do it.

Paramount Transportation Systems - Houston, TX
13770 Hollister Road, Suite #190, Houston, Texas 77086 USA
Phone: 281.586.7979 or 888.873.7878

ETA:

Check into what it is going to take to import your car into the US. If you are on a temporary work permit, you might not have any issues, but showing up at the border and finding out that you won't be able to register your car in Louisiana could be a problem.
