I was looking at these re-issued skate decks of Santa Cruz and Powell Peralta - really takes you back to your youth. I was never a serious skater just did it for fun was no good at tricks or anything. What was your ride back in the day? Which did you really want?

I had a 1985 (I think) Tony Hawk. In fact I still have it and started riding it again in 1998 but I had to give up riding due to an incident involving Pilsner beer, a hill and a manhole cover.
Pink board, Independent trucks, kryptonics. Man it was cool. You can tell how much of a Thrasher I was by the fact that I only ever really needed one skateboard.

Roskopp V. What a sweet board she was....up until my fat neighbour jumped on it and snapped it in half. I did get a Lance Mountain out of it, but it was never the same.
I have 3 skates at my house, and just recently retired (last year) after falling about 5 feet to flat at the Source park, ripping the shinguard out of my elbows and hip. It hurts a lot more now that I'm 30.......I just don't bounce like some of those young 'uns do.

Sigh... all my friends had the latest and greatest boards from the Snob shop - remember that place? Tony Hawk, Vision Gators, Tracker trucks, Powell Perelta, Swiss Bones bearings. For a while it was cool to put all the board protection stuff - ribs, lappers, tail bone but then it made you a poser.
Unfortuantely, the parents couldn't afford to buy me a fancy board. So I got a Variflex POS from Sport Chek. Doubles as a 'creeper' board for car work now....

had an old Christian Hosoi deck and I think i still have a Skull Skates board somewhere. Hosoi was recently released from prison and is trying a comeback (did 4 years for Crystal Meth) My best summer job ever was Skatepark supervisor. Got to ride a half pipe and get paid for it.

If your boards are in decent shape you can sell them to collectors on Ebay for some pretty decent cash. I have a buddy who collects them and has dished out up to $300 US for one he really wants.

Don't mean to hijack at all but I found this site...
http://www.vintagebmx.com/
And while it's bikes, it's all the same era and there are pictures of some old school Kuwies and GTs and PK Rippers. Click the "BMX Museum" tab.

the Skull Skates one is totally worn, the only paint left on it is the logo.
Kind of related to old boards: Rob Roskopp is now the president of Santa Cruz Bicycles, and was also a darn good hockey player growing up.

Your a bunch of skater losers!!!!
j/k..haha I used to love skateboarding a few years ago but hurt my knee pretty bad and couldn't go on. That and I had no time seeing as I had school and a job. It's hard to keep up with hobbies.
i used to always by ATM's. Pretty cheap and I thought they were pretty comfortable. Lasted just as long as big brand names aswell.

Lessee...
Jeff Kendall Graffiti deck/ Santa Cruz
Lance Mountain/Powell Peralta
2 different Tony Magnussen decks
Natas kapas/ santa monica airlines (Panther deck that caused the controvery because church goers noticed thaty if you spell NATAS backwards...)
Joe Johnson/ Dogtown
Yellow Tony Hawk/PP
Those are the ones I remembered having.
Trucks: started with trackers but broke 2 of the plastic baseplates, switched to Independant.
Wheels: Bullet 57's, Bullet 66's, Sawblades (Sucked), Mini rats (powell),
I've still got the NATAS deck with indy trucks, bullet wheels and Powell Peralta rails and thuderbolt trck bolts. I might put it on EBAY with a high reserve to see what it's worth. I've still got the Joe Johnson/ dogtown deck as well.
Good times...

One year my parents got me a skateboard for Christmas because my brother wanted one really bad and they always insisted on being dead fair to both of us at Christmas. I picked out a Steve Caballero (Powell Perelta) deck, Independent trucks, Vision Blur wheels as the main components. I really sucked at skateboarding, and didn't really want the board. I eventually traded it for a Diamond Back bike, which I never used either. One time I tried riding a skateboard down a hill and ended up breaking my collar bone....What can I say skateboarding just wasn't my bag.
