How do we get a new goalie?
The goaltending on this team is inexcusably bad. It's not NHL calibre and I believe we are tied with Columbus for the worst save precentage in the league. All 3 allow at least a few soft goals per game and the team just falls apart after.
Unfortunately this is not a problem that can be fixed by coaching.
How do we fix this? Do we fix it all?

Sure, Carey Price would have helped this team this year.. Maybe. But even a goalie of his calibre can't fix the long term issues on the Flames.
I truly believe we have one of the next great NHL goalies in the coffers. But like the rest of the team, they need time.
I hope the Flames don't do anything crazy and aim for a new (old) starting goalie to try and salvage this season just to try and sqweak in to the post season just to try and win one round.
Last year was alot of fun and a showcase of the potential out young guys have. Now it's figuring the rest out, supporting the studs with more young guys coming up and developing a D-core to play in front of a goalie who could be world class.

I agree with the "something crazy" part. But the Flames were looking for a medium term goalie around the draft, someone to play for at least a few years until we know what we have with Ortio and Gillies. And if that someone ends up being a bona fide long term starter, all the better.
That goal should still be on the checklist for the team. Regardless of the standings. The standings and play to date shouldn't force the team into a panic move though.

I think it can in fact be fixed. All 3 goalies last season showed promise and an ability to win games. They have the ability and talent to do it. For some reason it's not all clicking.
What if Treliving goes out, gets a good goalie and the team still sucks? Then what? The team as a collective seems to be out of sync. Having said that, I think goaltending is the #1 issue but there is no guarantee that going out and using an asset to get another goalie yields a better result. Hiller is not normally this bad. This is not the norm for him. And while Ortio hasn't taken the reigns and ran with it, he's shown to be more then capable in his small sample size.
Is it the goalie coach? Perhaps. None of us are in the room so we have no idea. But all 3 goalies need to get their #### together and sooner rather then later.
All we need is one of the goalies to steal us a game, get some confidence. A shutout would be a godsend. With the way our defensive zone coverage is these days, getting another goalie would just recycle the same problem until other issues are resolved.
The saying goes that your goalie is only as good as the system you play in.

Nobody wants to ruin their budding careers playing for this poor excuse of a team?

I think you have to wait until the off season. Giving up assets now seems very short sighted. Only question is whether you are looking for one goalie or two. Atleast figure out if Ortio is a legitimate backup this year. I'm doubting it.
Can't count on Gillies next year.

Treliving is not going to mortgage the future for a bandaid solution goalie when the overall team is playing this bad. Because GM's are going to squeeze him for draft picks.
Wideman too fat of a caphit.
Russell is cheap but playing as well as that low $ amount. Still very moveable.
Bollig is not worth his contract.
Raymond is definitely not worth his contract.
Backlund is a strong candidate, he can be deceiving good at times but overall is a floater and frequently puts his teammates in bad positions with a comprimising pass when he wants to end his shift then he scampers off the ice to leave them to deal with his grenade. A GM could bite on Backlund because of his body of work not just his recent schlock.
Jones has had some decent moments but deep down we know he going to float for a stretch again. Jones could be decent bait.
So besides them we don't want Treliving to trade a decent player for hope and prayer short term long shot goalie.

Thought I would say something cheeky, then I realized that even Pavelec would be a massive upgrade on what we currently have in stock. That hurt my brain.

We saw last off season there was a glut of goalies available. Wait for then and either sign Ward, or trade something low value to a team looking to dump one.
I like the idea of Ward being a stop gap to Gillies.

No point now in trading for a goalie. Hope Ramo or Ortio gets on a roll is all you can do.

Out of those I would take a chance on Raanta if he makes it to UFA.

Disagree. Find this years dubnyk. Pro scouts should have a good handle on what's out there already in the league and who is in the ahl on the verge of making the jump to the NHL and may be available.
Can't see this management team sitting idly by doing nothing.
