The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned defenceman Jakub Nakladal to their AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat.

Makes sense. Flames now have 7 healthy d-men on the roster with Brodie coming back.

I hope he continues to work hard and earns himself a spot if/when a trade happens on the big club.

Makes sense. Too bad he didn't get a game, but I'm sure he'll be back at some point this season.

The way the pairings are working, this needed to be done.

Gio-Brodie is a no brainer but Wideman and Russell aren't working out the best but Hamilton and Engelland don't seem too bad. If one of Wideman or Russell are traded, I'd like to see Hamilton build chemistry with the other than have Engelland with Nakladal.

I think it's only a matter of time before he makes it into the lineup.

Even if we were to trade Smid, I wouldn't want Naklada to be our #7 just sitting in the press box. At least this way he'll play. I'd like it if he could turn into our #6 soon though.
