GAME 15: Battle of Alberta (CFL Style) - Part 3
Game time: 5:00pm Saturday, October 10th at McMahon Stadium
TV: TSN, ESPN3
Calgary Stampeders(11-3) will be playing the Edmonton Eskimos(10-4) for the third time and the most important game this regular season. Calgary won the Labour Day game and Edmonton winning the rematch. Stampeders winning this game will ensure them the 1st place in Western Division and a bye in the first round Western Division playoff. The worst case scenario for the Stamps this late in the season and losing this game and Eskimos winning the rest of their games.
Edmonton Eskimos won the last 4 games since QB Mike Reilly came back from the injury.
OFFENSE:
RB Jon Cornish posted a back-to-back 90 rushing yards or better in the last 2 games. He is heating up at the right time and hope he torched the Eskimos with more rushing yardages in this game. Cornish been very good against the Eskimos in the last few games he played.
QB Bo Levi Mitchell cooled off of late. He only threw for more than 300 yards just once in the last 5 games. In those last 5 games, he threw for 6 TDs and 4 INTs. R Eric Rogers and R Marquay McDaniel has been Mitchell's favorite targets of late.
DEFENSE:
Last time Stamps played the Eskimos in Week 12, Defense gave up a season-high total 431 yards and 352 yards of those are passing yards. Ever since their lost to Eskimos, Stamps D improved allowing an average 241 passing yards, 2 passing TDs while picking off 4 interceptions.
LB Deron Mayo replacing Juwan Simpson as a middle linebacker had 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery last game.
DE Freddie Bishop III had at least a QB sack in the last 6 games tying him Charleston Hughes for the team lead in QB sacks with 9.
SPECIAL TEAM:
Returner Tim Brown will be back in the lineup tonight after going down with the injury against Randy Richards who was playing for the Riders at the time. Richards is now a Calgary Stampeders and might start playing soon as a special teamer. Stamps coverage team has been awful in the last few games giving up return touchdown against Lions Chris Rainey(2x), Ticats Speedy Banks and Bombers Stoudamaire. Blocking team hasn't been that good either with their constant illegal block/holding penalty and letting the opponents blocked Rob Maver's punt. This group need to improve soon.
INs and OUTs:
In: #2 RB/Ret Tim Brown, #32 DB Tevaughn Campbell, #48 LB Cameron Ontko, #94 DL/ST Frank Beltre
Out: #17 Ret Skye Dawson, #34 RB Tory Harrison, #41 DB/ST Adam Thibault, #98 DE Brandon Boudreaux.
************************************************** *********
Head Coach John Hufnagel next win will be his 100th career wins.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Not quite Oz.
There would be a 4 point lead but each team would have 3 games left (6 pts) so if the Stamps lost them all and Esks win theirs, Edmonton would be in 1st.
But essentially, yes, this game is for 1st place.
Hopefully they have worked out their issues on Special teams...my god that has become a nightmare.
Reilly needs to be hit a few times and not allowed to run around. If that happens the odds are exponentially better that the Stamps win.
BLM needs to start stretching the field earlier in the game as well. Put the long ball in the Esks defensive minds and the underneath game gets easier too.
Should be a good one though...been a long time since these two teams have played so late in the year where it meant something.

True. I would put if they win here, they are pretty much ensure the West Division even if both teams win their last 3 games.
Yes Stamps D respected Reilly way too much last game instead of punishing him with the hit. I hope not this time. Pressure him and hit him hard all the time.

Good start by Stamps D. 2 sacks or the first one was not considered a sack?

Love DD but I don't understand why Cornish hasn't carry the ball yet. Eric Rogers dropping the ball on a good pass and good gain there.

Do you know the rationale for throwing the ball on 2nd and 2? I don't get it.

not too happy with the Stamps pass defense. They are giving Reilly lots of room to pass to. Receivers are always open.

Cornish has moved the ball fine, but has just 2 carries.

Cutthbert is an idiot. Offside my butt.. it was time count violation.
I do not like the way our offense and our pass defense are playing. TD pass by Reilly. I don't think he missed a pass completion yet the way the pass defense are playing.

Not the only call he called wrong so far. Yes he is one of the best when he is being neutral.

Man, pretty solidly outplayed for about 28 minutes, but they're right there. Lots to clean up for 2nd half.
