How to handle work cell + personal cell?
So I finally got a work phone and I'm basically trusting enough to use it for everything. However, I don't want to get rid of my personal cell.
My ideal situation would be to drop my cell plan to the minimum allowed, and then just forward every text/call from my personal cell to my work phone and then just carry my work phone around. Is that even possible?
Otherwise what are some other strategies that people use to do this other than just bringing two phones everywhere?
My current personal is a Samsung S3 and my work phone is an iphone 5S if I can do it from the phone itself and not through a provider/plan.

When I was hired to my curent job, I was asked if I was willing to use my personal cell phone for work - with my job paying for the entire bill cost.
I think that's a pretty good deal. Except now my iPhone 5 has the crappiest battery ever, and I'd like to replace it, but a new iphone costs over $1000.

Drop to a text/call plan only and wifi hotspot from the 5s for the data. Although battery will take a hit on the iPhone.
Edit - oh you want to keep only one phone...

I carried two phones for awhile and started forwarding calls and texts from my personal to work but that got expensive. As far as I know there is no way to forward without going through the carrier, they will even have forwarding plans. Eventually I just got all my contacts using my work phone and ditched the personal one.
Corporate plans should still let you get the upgrade deals on plans. You still have to pay the difference but it's pretty much the same as any personal deal. Talk to your account rep and see what you can work out.

I just went down to one phone.
The only part that is kind of annoying is that email is pushed to the phone so it is a little harder to detach. Im working on the discipline not to open email when Im at home. Otherwise one phone works great and saves a lot of money. Its a pretty good benefit.

Ask if they'll just cover some of or all of your personal bill instead. Otherwise I much prefer just having two phones, one stays at work/in my truck, and I was able to really minimize my plan

I am on one phone with two email accounts. I turn off the work emails when I'm not at work so unless I get a call out after hours for an emergency which I charge the company for.

You could also port your personal number to a VoIP service like Fongo. The iPhone can handle iMessages on both numbers, so you would only have standard text massages to deal with in the VoIP account.

Unless you absolutely want or need to keep a different personal vs work number (i.e. you're in a customer service role), can you ask if you can transfer your personal number over to the work phone/plan under the understanding that you keep the number when you leave the company (whether electively or not)?

Make sure you get this in writing. Work may try to keep the number after you leave.

I rock two phones. If I don't, I can't disconnect from work and enjoy my off time. Just how I am. So once I get home, the work phone goes on the charging plate.

As someone not familiar with the work /personal phone world. I have always assumed people with two phones are drug dealers.

I work for an electrical utility so I'm on call occasionally, but on any given night could have to go fix something if it is a big issue requiring multiple guys. We all have phones but only team leads and supervisors get smartphones. The rest of us have useless Samsung flip phones that take 100 pics of your pocket per day (dedicated camera button).
I have since forwarded my work phone to my personal phone (Blackberry) permanently and never looked back.
