This hits close to home, one of the raided warehouses was in my neighbourhood. We heard loads of police sirens going off the other day but had no idea what was going on at the time.

I will also add that just like all wars on drugs, the Australian one is a futile effort. The police make a big deal about how all this ice was taken off the streets but someone will fill the demand and Sydney will continue to have an ice problem.

And so the solution is to not have raids like this as they are futile?

A Billion Dollars of anything is a big deal. It's a huge hit to the drug trade.

Yes, it may be filled eventually, but for the time being that is a lot of lives saved.

Yeah, but I'm ok with getting that much meth off of the streets.

People who sell that sh%% should eat a bullet. Lump them in with the people selling that poisoned Ex

Yes, of course the raid was a good thing and meth dealers are the scum of the earth. I just think resources would be better spent on education and rehabilitation (reducing demand) instead of militarising the police for a war on drugs (reducing supply).

I don't think it should be an either/or proposition, it should be a "both".

Reducing the Supply makes it harder to get, so those that aren't yet hooked can't find it easily.

Increasing the rehabilitation helps those that are already hooked. This is desperately needed IMO.

Education helps, but only so much (IMO). Virtually everyone knows how bad cigarettes are for your health, yet there are still plenty who smoke and begin to smoke all the time. There could definitely be more education about how much worse the hard drugs are, but people are still going to do it.

Saw that this morning. That's crazy!

Looks like a very sophisticated smuggling program. Some heads are going to roll after this.

Well, smoking was down to about 18 percent before vaping took off. That's down from over 50 percent in about a generation (30-40 years) for a drug that's still legal! And supposedly it's one of the most addictive drugs out there. Who knows what the bottom could have been?

I think education and rehabilitation do far more than most think. And its far more cost effective. And kind. And you know, doesn't cause crime.

Is anyone seriously suggesting if we legslized drugs, or even just fought and prosecuted them less, numbers would approach cigarette usage?

I'm very much for having a safe environment for people to get and use drugs. I'm more for everyone to have a safe home and a fair wage, but I have to be a realist here.

i wonder if the dealers in situations like this dispense a some of thier won justice, or if everyone just chalks it up to part fo the overall risk - as I am thinking that perhaps someone did not get paid from some product.

You know, I understand that the 'War on Drugs' is futile, but I think that it should still be fought for some specific drugs and Meth is sure as hell one of them.

I like my booze but I prefer it not to be made in some dude's bathtub with whatever he happened to find under the sink.

This stuff is terrible.

I too wonder if "dealers dispense a some of their won justice". Anyways, typically this stuff is paid for along the way. So nobody has paid for drugs that now aren't going to get to them. They would have paid upon delivery, so it's whoever was left holding the proverbial bag that gets screwed.
